Ol' Skool grooves in Today's Gospel

It tickles me sometimes when I hear a specific Gospel song and just happen to spot an groove I used to play in the 70's and 80's.  For example:

John P. Kee's "Rain On Us" (Freddy's Dead/Bad Mamma Jamma)
New Direction "New Direction" (EWF's On Your Face)
Byron Cage's "I Will Bless The Lord" (Woman's Gotta Have It by Bobby Womack)
Mary Mary's "Heaven" (Want Ads by the Honey Cone)

Not to mention all the P-Funk grooves used by Kirk Franklin, Miami Mass Choir and then some.

I'm glad to see people remember where they came from musically.  As Graham said, "Ain't No Bout A-Doubt It".

I agree...I like to hear a little samplin now and then.  It's like a tribute to a great song.

I love it when artist reproduce a classic groove/style. I don't care to much for the sampling (that always makes me want to hear the real song).

You should check out:
-Pee Wee Callins "I Choose Love" (clearly Earth, Wind, & Fire)
-Mary Mary "You Will Know" (vintage Steve Wonder)

Anything is better that music from the 90's.  Unfortunately, (IMO) most artist today still favor that 90's drum machine sound.

Some of the early eighties was cool (perhaps the 70's carried over some), but mid to late 80's

I notice people in the church flinch when I play "I'll Take You There" by the Staple Singers and it's an inspirational piece. 8O

That's too bad, that's one of the first songs that I learned to play.

Same here.  That and Scorpio, Get Ready, For The Love Of Money, etc.
