Song theory
« on: February 23, 2006, 12:22:38 PM »
Does anyone know the song "I'll say yes, Lord yes, to your will and to your way... I'll say yes Lord yes...."?
Could you help me understand the theory on this song.  I've been trying to learn in the Key of C.  I thought it was a 1-4-1 in the beginning but the part that changes to "when your Spirit speaks to me, in my whole heart I'll agree" I'm not sure.  I know the ending of course is a 2-5-1.
I've been wanted to learn this in a the more contempary style.  If anyone can help me out I'ld really apprieciate it.

UP,
Haven't got a keyboard in front of me right now, so I might be wrong, but:

when the Spirit........E/CEG (ie, C over E)
speaks to me...........F/CFA (an inversion of F)
with my whole heart....G/BDG (an inversion of G)
I'll...................Ab/BDFAb (ie, Ab diminished)
agree..................A/CEG (A minor)

Key thing here is the bassline walking up: E to F to G to Ab to A. Try this, if it works for you it can be embellished.

Peace

So this would be the basics of the song:
I'll say Yes, Lord Yes, to your will and to your way...........C/CEG
I'll say Yes ,Lord Yes,I will trust you and obey.................F/FAC
when the Spirit................................. .........................E/CEG (ie, C over E)
speaks to me..................................... ........................F/CFA (an inversion of F)
with my whole heart.................................. ................G/BDG (an inversion of G)
I'll..................................... ......................................A b/BDFAb (ie, Ab diminished)
agree.................................. ....................................A/CEG (A minor)
And My Answer Will be..................................... .........D/DFA
Yes, Lord ....................................... .........................G/BDG
Yes.................................... .....................................C/CEG

Hmmm, I haven't got a keyboard right now, but the second line sounds like a V chord, not a IV. I'd play:

'll say Yes, Lord Yes, to your will and to your way...........C/CEG
I'll say Yes ,.....................................................................G/BDG
Lord Yes,I will trust.................................. .......................C/CEG
you and obey

Also, when I play this song, I usually put in a standard 1-6-2-5 turnaround on 'trust'.
Something like:
trust You.........C/CEG
and.o-.............A/CEG
-beyyyy...........D/CFA
yyyy.................G/BDF

All chords held for one beat.

Does that make sense?

But all the rest of the chords that you posted look ok  ;D

And My answer will be, is it play with a walk up to the 2 from the 6?
And     6
My       7
Answer 1(2x)
will be
Yes      2
Lord     5
Yes      1
Thanks for the help!  I hope to try this out this weekend.

Will...........3
Be............4
Yes..........5
Lord, Yes..1

Did you play it on Sunday? How did it go?

Does anyone have a MIDI or could create a MIDI of this song because I think that I am thinking of something different  ???
