Updating Leslie Speaker ?
« on: March 25, 2004, 06:27:59 PM »
Hello Y'all,

Our church have the common Hammond B3 Model from the 1960's which plays very well. The problem that I'm having is concerning the Leslie speaker. The speaker works very good and is quite loud , but this unit is the Model-122. This unit's sound has no reverb and therefore as far as I'm concerned, does not provide the best full sound, especially in our church which has bad acoustics that doesn't provide any room echo.

I understand there is a device which a techician can install to provide the reverb. Does any one know what this might cost, and has anyone had any success with such a unit attached to the organ, or would it be better to try any find a Model 147 which has a reverb capabability?

Thanks for any feedback that can be provided. I'm out.

Terry

The 147 is almost identical to the 122.  There is no reverb capability in the 147 (or 122).

The reverb unit goes in the B3.  I don't know what organ techs are putting in B3's for reverb today, but years ago there were several units that consisted of "springs" (yep - foot long springs about the diameter of a pencil) and an amplifier unit that was wired into the organ's pre-amp.

You need to call a competent organ tech and get a price.

What do you all mean by "reverb"?  This may be the problem with our leslie.

I honestly dont like the reverb, but just call your local organ tech and see what they can do about it.

There are leslie models 122RV, 147rv, 251 and others that have a reverb amp. reverb will not compensate for poor acoustics. That problem needs to be addressed first. Your B3/ leslie can be remidied by properly placing microphones at the top horns and lower rotors and playing it into the church's PA system. A good sound tech should know how. The 122 is the most desired leslie speaker to mate with a B3,C3,A-100 vintage gospel Hammond for"That Sound. You got the right one baby! Keep your 122 and get the accoustics inside the scantuary fixed. I see this problem all the time.
