drawbar settings needed???
« on: October 20, 2005, 12:22:28 PM »
i have a few of the basic settings i like to play low
so bringing out the low black one doesint feel comfortable all the time

i have a problem findng warm settings for nice flowing songs like worship and praise and up tempo hymns

and especially shouts

so far i use the following
8080000000 for worship but i have to play higher up not comfortable
0088000000 good setting for worship and talk music but it is getting old
8588548326  butch hewyard setting for uptempo devotional sounds good
but it too is sounding old to me
8588888888  for shouts standard setting I think

as you see i dont have too much imagination when it comes to the B3
people say just pull out the 16 and go from there i have tried it but since i am new to the organ and dont relly have my style together yet sometimes i bop sometimes i dont sometimes i use tri tones in my left sometimes i use lefthand A?B voicings so the settings sometimes sound ugly as i swith gears
i know it is a learning process but can somebody help me with some basic settings that you use so i can get started
thank you

I just got back from church i copied all of them down and their descriptions and I used them the lat one for backing up the preacher is really decent it doesent sound like much if you are holdin a chord but like it said if you have chops and can match the preacher note for note it is an awsome sound I also liked melvins sound in all the two years i studied with him i never got any drawbar settings so i was especially pleased to get that one,  thank you for hipping me to that.

Thank you for reposting those. Time to put them into effect, but where am I pulling these drawbar out at? for instance.....
Soft Gospel ___________________ 008800000

Am I pulling those drawbars out on the drawbars left, or the drawbars that are after the the basspedal drawbars. so how does these settings go.on the left side of the organ, or on the right?

DRaw bar basics
« Reply #5 on: November 05, 2005, 01:56:24 PM »
To answer that question all of the settings except for one are for either the upper or the lower manual it is up to you how you want to set them
some people set the top manual for bass work and right hand runs and chords others set the the lower one for the right hand and the upper one for the left

the first two sets of draw bars are for the upper manual and they are controlled by the last two reverse keys on the seft side of the organ

the white Bb note when pressed will allow the first set of draw bars to control the upper manual
the black B key when depressed will allow the second set of drawbars to control the upper manual

the two sets of drawbars after the pedal drawbars control the lower manual and again it is the reverse color keys next to the lower manual that will control which set of draw bars you will use

the white Bb controls the first set and Yhe black B key controls the second set

as far as how you will set the two manuals that is up to you but for example you could set the upper manual to

876

and the lower one to  008500002

and play right hand on the upper and left hand on the lower

experiment with the combinations many of the settings listed are awsome you will develop favorites and eventually begin to come up with your own according to my hammond manual there are over 2,000,000 possible combinations that is a lot in fact to be exact the manual says approximately 253,000,000 possible combinations that is an awful lot
i suppose they are are counting the upper and lower with greats on and off swells on and off and all the possible vibrato and chorus settings and tremelo on and off they are probably adding volume pedal wide open and all off but anyway that is so many no wonder people keep some of their settings a secret

i stumbled upon one setting that sounds real nice for lines it made the upper manual bark but i forgot what they were so as you play with them when you find one you like write it down

God Bless

Hey everyone  this is your boy C Bull  just wanted to say what's up.  I see you guys are enjoying the drawabar settings from my old site. B3player.com. I no longer run this website as my focus now is mainly on Keys and Piano at the moment.

About the List below I should point out that about that when I created this List I was playing on a SUPER-B.  Which came out before the XB-3  and sounded worst, Trust me there was nothing super about it at all.  If you are in Dayton, my old church (Mt Calvary) still has one there.   I live and play in Columbus at Mount Hermon come check us out if you are in the area.http://mthermon.com/

One Trick  to get that beast to sound a little better is to change the channels for the lesle from 3 channels to 2 channels with a soft setting(default if I remember is normal),  This is listed under the menu button.  I am sure the XB-3 Suffers from the same thing and once you change the channel settings your ears will thank you.

Now Back to the settings below, The SUPER-B only had only 2 Registration/drawbars sets that went like this:

                 { LCD DISPLAY}
           {} {} {} {} {} {} {} {} {}
Upper Manual Drawbars / Bass Pedal / Lower Manual Drawbars

That is why I listed them this way,

Also everything below the line was sent to me by Delmore Spence and  Sam Tolbert and I have not had an opportunity to test them all out.

Hey y'all Stay in the Groove and you can check out some of my cuts at http://www.myspace.com/nykeys

i have a few of the basic settings i like to play low
so bringing out the low black one doesint feel comfortable all the time

i have a problem findng warm settings for nice flowing songs like worship and praise and up tempo hymns

and especially shouts

so far i use the following
8080000000 for worship but i have to play higher up not comfortable
0088000000 good setting for worship and talk music but it is getting old
8588548326  butch hewyard setting for uptempo devotional sounds good
but it too is sounding old to me
8588888888  for shouts standard setting I think

These settings are pretty much all you need to know, Hammondman is the man as far as drawbars go.

A rule of thumb I use is that the 1st, 3rd and whites are you primaries, all the rest are color tones, go easy on those, but sometimes those color tones in excess are good, like what you for shouting.

A good accompanient quiet sound I use on the lower manual is 008800000 or 008808000, maybe adding a little bit of the 9th with the Leslie on hi.  This is especially good for solo organ if you're playing bass on the pedals, this sound on the lower manual and a good lead sound up top.  I if I'm playing on the upper manual I may cut the lower settings by about 1/2 so the upper voice doesn't get buried.

The higher pitched drawbars are of course on the right, so using more of those will allow you to play lower on the manual, if that's what you're trying to accomplish.
Thanks for letting me hang with you guys!

well, I have the owner's manual that came with my Hammond C3, I've gone thru some of those, but none of those were sounds were any that were influenced by the gospel church, blues or jazz, which the Hammond company completely ignored until the death of Laurent Hammond in the 1970s.

I would imagine that the one in the book are a bit more inclusive, I'll have to check those out.
Thanks for letting me hang with you guys!
