In a word, no.

Music is just music, but it's the words that make it gospel, secular, or whatever genre.  So, to answer your question, in my personal opinion secular music is not better than gospel music cuz gospel talks about the Bible.  Secular talks a little about the Bible, but mostly about everything else.

But, actually, Gospel got it's start from Rhythm & blues, see the story about Thomas Dorsey, the Father orf Gospel music.

I have to look that one up. Now when you say gospel, you mean that gospel sound, right? Because Psalms is nothing but gospel, but they didn't have electronics, so Kanye West can't jack David's beats.
Gospel music is better than secular because it glorifies GOD, or preaches or does something that GOD wants us to. Incidentally, not all gospel is good because some songs are not BIBLE accurate. Like the song "he'll never say no." GOD says no plenty of times.
I agree that, for the most part, gospel rap songs are "rubbish." Some people know what they're doing (like Cross movement, to name one).

I wanted to say the same thing. If you look at the background of R& B singers where to they claim they got their start "the church."   Ex: Usher, Michelle Williams, Luther, Levert, Stevie Wonder and so on...

I totally agree. Gospel that remains true to itself (whether traditional or contemporary) is hot! So-called gospel that tries too hard to be like other music (i.e. hip-hop) is extremely corny.
