Join the club....from a choir director to another, you have to work around them.......take control of your rehearsal and if you have to call them out, then by all means, DO IT!!

You have to have some kind of discipline and some order

thats true, but its kind of hard when u have a choir president who always wants to run to the pastor everytime things dont go her way u know. instead of the pastor using correct judgement, he baby's her. thats another reason y its hard. i've thought about giving up the position a few times. i figure someone else should deal with it for a while.

Unruly choir member(s)'s actions are unfair to the leader, other choir members, as well the music ministry. I would reccommend the following:

1 tallk with that individual one on one. (If that does not work)
2 You both go and talk to the pastor.

OH, wow!

I think we've all been there, either we were the unruly choir member, or we've had to deal with some!  I think that it's best to first talk to them, put ur foot down, in a good way  ;D, and if it doesn't get better take it to the Pastor.  Now if they don't listen to the Pastor then they just need to be prayed for, cause they show won't listen to you  :D

one thing i have learned is;choirs are like school... the teacher is not there for the money(most of the time) they are there because of the love to teach..... at choir rehearsal, once you establish to the choir that they r suppose to be there for the love of christ!!! if they r save, they will fall in subjection,,,if not take them all back to the altar.....

That might work if it was a children's choir....what are you going to look like taking a bunch of grown folks to the altar.....they're going to request to send you to a place, and it's not Heaven or the altar...

That's where we need to take the grown folks....................to the altar.................if they are "out of order" in the choir, I can't image how "out of order" their life is.

I know that's where they might need to go, but imagine tapping one of them on the shoulder and telling them to go there....they are going to tell you to go somewhere else.....

They would, and have. We need to be reminded once in a while aboput the spirit of rebellion against leadership in the church. When Korah (Num.16) rose up against leadership (Moses-----thinking he had a better way of doing things) God opened up the ground ans swallowed up all those that agreed (rebelled) with him.

I've had that happen to me b 4.  I pulled that unruly choir member to the side to talk with her.  She would sit in choir practice with headphones on singing loud and very much out of tune to the 5th power.  Sometimes she would try and get smart.  I took her to the pastor.  What came out of the issue, she just had a lot of anger built up in her because I was appointed MOM so she took her anger out on me.  She eventually quit the choir.  Once she quit the choir, the motivation picked up in the choir.  God is still good.  Everything that we do must be done in a decent and orderly manner.

Some people just don't realize that sin is very contagious.  It can contaminate a whole choir if you are not prayed and fasted up.  We have to be obedient to God's word.  There is no other way around it.

Just remember you are the director, set rules run them by the pastor and then hold on, because the ride may get a little bumpy, but the pay-off is excellent.Ron Kenoly said it this way" If you catch hell don't hold it and if your'e going through hell don't stop.                 peace, Dbynem

You should talk to your pastor about the situation...maybe he or she could come and sit in on a rehearsal one day..or give the members a lil' talk...I totally understand what ur going through...I go through that with the praise team....make sure u guys pray before and after rehearsal...
