Let's start a thread of gospel turnarounds.  If you can add a gospel turnaround, please do so.  I'll start things off:

Here is a gospel turnaround for you all.  For all you theory buffs, I call this the 3-4-5-6-7-1 progression. You can use this when going back to 1:

Key C  LH/RH

Version 1:

E / G-C-E (3)
F / A-D-F (4)
G / G-C-E (5)
A / F#-C-D# (6)
B / F-B-D (7)
C / E-G-C (1)

Version 1 explanation chord by chord:

E / G-C-E (3) = C major chord, 3rd scale degree and 3rd of the chord in the bass

F / A-D-F (4)   *D minor chord, 4th scale degree and 3rd of the chord in the bass

G / G-C-E (5)  *C major chord, 5th scaled degree and 5th of the chord G in the bass

A / F#-C-D# (6)  *A diminished 7th/fully diminished chord, 6th scale degree and root of the chord in the bass

B / F-B-D (7)  *B diminished chord, 7th scale degree and root of the chord in the bass

C / E-G-C (1)   *C major chord, 1st scale degree and root of the chord in the bass

This is an old school gospel Turnaround that you can find on songs like "Marvelous" by T.D. Jakes and "Jesus" by John P. Kee.  There are some other song, but those the only 2 I can think of right now.

This is a strange turn around i use sometimes
Eb/ F# bb db F   2 beats
Ab/ F# Bb c F    2 Beats
A/ Ab Db          1 beat

This is a nice 4 to 1 move but you dont resolve this one

F/FBbDF
F#/ Eb Ab Db F   just hang on this chord the f at the top of the chord establishes the F
This is an old stand by using a deceptive cadence

T-block I heard a similar one to yours where they  inserted a note i think on the Ab or maybe it was the Bb or it could have been the F#  I d ont know but there were  chords in all

I thought of two more these are like licking turnarounds


in the key of F

C - AC -BbD- AC- AC- F C- B- Bb- A -ACF

This is an old blues lick you have to play the notes real quick
the second AC- F C is a triplet the rest are swung 8th notes 

And you are suppose to play grace notes from the Ab to the A

And here is a alkup to the five

Something alot of southern gospel flava.  I've been looking for a good DVD that would show me, but I can't find any

No DVD that i know of but check homespun tapes they have two gospel videos by this lady Ethel caffie austin from west virginia
all her stuff is reall old school traditional but it is very cool that was my first intor to gospel

she does Oh when the saints
angels
standing in the need of prayer
Amazing grace
cant nobody
Blessed assurance lay down my burdens

she teaches several styles in fact i need to revisit these

Here are the details behind it.. basically you're doing this run over a 3-6-2-5-1 progression..

The MIDI is broken up into 4 tracks
1 - Piano RH Run
2 - Piano LH Chords (Rootless voicings)
3 - Bass
4 - Woodblock (acting as a metronome so that you can feel the timing)

With VanBasco MIDI player you can change tempo, keys and turn off any of these tracks.

I feel you i thought the same thing when I had it but you know what those 7 or 8 chords are the fancy things like she says bit by bit You may not get every thing on the first go around

but learn what you can at least be able to play the simpler version then add little pieces to it

in the mean time you can TRANSPOSE those songs man

 

But her tape is it man you have to realize she is really gining some advanced inteermediate

stuff so it may take you a year to get to the advanced stuff maybe more
