I only recently realised that I was getting better!! I don't think I've found 'my tone' as yet, but I have a few favourites. Learning gets harder as you go for more difficult stuff, untill you are good enough to pick up things easily. What about you?

1) i realized i was getting better when songs that i used to listen to when i first started playing and used to be like, "man, how the heck is he/she doin that?"...i would find them again much later on and pick up my guitar and be like, "oh, this is what they did, well that's fairly simple."

people also let you know you're getting better.

2) don't know if i've found my tone. i play through (as you know D) a semi hollow, so thats the majority of whatever tone i use right there. my favorite setting is Bridge/Neck combo with the neck turned slightly higher volume and tonewise.

3) i don't know if learning will get easier, because it'll take the same discipline that it took to learn the pentatonic scale earlier on, to also learn more difficult stuff as you try more advanced guitar playing. i think the feeling of getting easier is largely the ability to not be frustrated as much when learning harder stuff because you know you can do it after coming so far.

1). were getting better - I still realize it 'cause I'm still learning.  ;D

2). had found your tone - I think I found my "tone" in the first few years I was playing but I define tone maybe differently than other folks. Tone to me is more technique and style and not so much a type of sound. Does that make sense? Anyway, I have some old tapes from back around '81 when I had been only playing for a few years and I sort of sound like I do now back then a little.

3). learning was easier - it depends on what I'm learning but I found that as my ear hears better, I learn easier, and I've been trying to stretch that ability through the years. I can hear things and comprehend them now that I never could a few years ago.

AS for me, I am trying to push myself  to the limit.I had a brief learning hurdle but today I realized that I have improved. Members are now telling me to play it louder ( Over 2 Leslie speakers and the drummer) so they can hear me more.. They are saying that im learning pretty fast but I feel that I am still holding the axe for the first time
My tone is slowly coming with the help of a rp50. I played a Line 6 POD Live today ad it had endless possibilities

I have only been playing for a few years and I am always getting better, but the biggest change came after joining this web-community...I was, at first learning things I never use currently, however, this site have help give me a gospel flavor and I am able to apply what I learn to gospel music.

I almost found my tone..definitely I like it clean when I play, sometimes a little distortion.  I have not decided on a "go-to" guitar...I'm still experimenting.

Learning has always been easy.  Finding time to practice the right way is hard.

The thing that always gets me when I practise is when I'm struggling to get something, and an amzing guitarist comes along and they're like "this is how you do it", and they get it in one go. It really pushes to develope yourself as guitarist. But sometimes you really wonder how people get to the level they do.

You too can be an amazing guitarist.  Just learn to do some ordinary things extraordinarily well and make sure that you enjoy yourself.

 (1) Were getting better.......The first time I relized I could play a lead on a song. I'm still struggling to get better. My rythym is solid, but my lead still needs much work.

 (2) Had found your tone......still working on that one. I think that's the everlasting quest for a guitar player.I've only heard one guitarist who had the perfect tone,Roy Buchannon,he could make that Tele sing.It was the most perfect tone I've ever heard.

 (3) Learning was easier....after 24 years of playing,I still find it hard to learn on my own. At least I have a concept of what people are doing on a fretboard.I learn more by watching than I do by listening. Not to say that is easier,I just know a little more of what people are showing me.
