Regardless of how you learn to play (internet, videos, lessons, group, osmosis, etc), a certain level of sef-discipline and self-motivation is required to learn how to play.
Things won't just come to you without putting in time and effort...and maybe a little money.
There are resources all over the internet and even here through the great studies that uriahsmusic offers. Take advantage of it all.
And always ask questions.
I will say that one big plus of taking private lessons is the available one-on-one and instant feedback that a skilled teacher can give you so that you don't develop potentially bad habits that are harder to break over time.
Still, adequate time devoted to study is priceless.
I've had people come to lessons that I teach only to see them not progress at all mainly because they put no time into study and practice between lessons. So you've got to be willing to put in the work in order to reap a reward.
Also, rememeber that playing in church is not simply playing in church...it's worship. It's a sacrifice of praise. It's responding to a call of servanthood that God has placed in you to rise up, be equipped, and serve while giving Him all of the glory and it's also a call to evangelism; so that others may see and praise their Father in heaven.
