Who here is on a diet, besides me?
« on: June 07, 2006, 09:11:03 PM »
I thought about this after posting some of my favorite foods,of the same thread. I don't know if I have any favorites now, since I have been on a low fat,low sodium diet.I generally eat pretty much the same stuff. You'd be suprised what has salt (sodium) in it.All those so-called heatly frozen dinners, not for me.Some of it is loaded with salt,I'm talking 71% sodium.I can't even eat processed turkey breast,I got to cook a turkey, take off the meat, than frezze it for my lunch meat.So far I lost about 17 lbs.,but it's been tough.Tonight for dinner I had: 1 lean hamburger patty,a helping of mashed potatoes, green beans and cantalope and grapes for desert.I bought some lean pork chops, which is what I having tomorow.I'm eating some some chicken bobs Saturday,I'm cooking on the grill! Maybe some grilled veggies to go with it.Anyway, anybody else on a diet?

Besides the Krispy Kreme diet... I am also on a seefood diet. I see food and I eat it. Works we'll with my wait problem, since I can't wait to eat. If they closed KFC I would swear that the Lord was comin back today....

But with all seriousness, I respect people on diets. Keep doin what you doin' and don't over do it. I think sometimes people over diet and become unhealthy...

I agree 100%. Since I was in the hospital,I gained a little knowledge about portion control. I eat fruits, namely apples to curb my appetite between meals. My wife got me some low sodium, low fat cookies that I can have with skim milk for snacks too.I limit myself to two diet drinks a day, sometimes only one. Thank God for Coke Zero and Sprite Zero, two of the best and tasiest diet drinks out there!

cut out sugar, white bread, and cut down on high carb foods.   when I get a sweet tooth I hit walmart's sugar free candy or get some low carb ice cream.

Been on a controlled carb thing for 2 months and I've lost 30lbs so far

The best thing to do is work out along with eating right. My last child the weight didn't come off as easily as it did with the first two even with eating right. So I joined a gym and have been there ever since. I don't diet I just work out more when I eat what I like. I wasn't overweight until I had my last child and that wasn't for me. You can still eat some of that stuff if you find out how your own metabolism works. I do yogo and everything. I switch it around to keep it interesting. Don't fall for that diet crap. Just eat what you like but don't overdo it.... :)

If it was only that simple! I also have to take blood thinners,so I'm really limited to what I can actually eat. I can't even eat some stuff that's good for me,like a lot of brocoli, spinach, green lettuce leaves, olive oil.I'm aslo restricted to my salt intake, which means I can have only have things with low sodium intake, like 9% or less.I am learning.Hopefully after next month,if everything turns out well,I'll be off the meds and just have to diet. That will make it a lot better!

I lost 30lbs in ONE month!!!

Well, mainly because the university clinic weighed me wrong when I went for an appointment. Then when I went in for my blood work this week...I was actually weighed, correctly!

Seriously, been watching what I eat. I do the 6 small meals a day that are high in fiber and protein. Fill ya up quicker! Staying away from the salts and sweets, also. Sprite Zero is pretty good and so are the Vault energy sodas, but of course the one with no sugar.

This is called the 'church folk diet'

or the new name for it 'the redemptive diet'  You get saved in church on Sunday or hear a good word, and run and start a plan that you execute for maybe one or two days....and oh Lord, don't miss midweek Bible Study......

I've lost 50 pounds since November.  I joined Weight Watchers May 1 when my weight loss stalled out.  I was surprised that WW is not a "DIET" but a lifestyle program.  I can eat what I want on the program as long as I control portions and have the "points" to pay for it. But because I, too, have blood pressure issues, I understand the low salt thing.  I do a lot of cooking on Sunday afternoon and package it for the week.  There's a lot you can do to add variety,  but you have to be willing (and have time) to experiment.

By the way, you don't have to cook your own turkey.  They have low sodium turkey in the deli department of most grocery stores.  You just have to have them slice it up for you.

Getting healthy for Him!

I didn't know about the low sodium turkey, thanks for telling me.I didn't cook this one either,a friend did. He has this big smoker and was doing a fund raiser for his church. He does a weird thing with his chickens and turkeys. In smokers, most have a water pan to prevent the meat from drying out,and then the outside is black from the smoke. He uses Dr.Pepper and chickens and turkeys turn out a nice carmel color.
