Theory behind this run
« on: May 07, 2004, 08:24:50 PM »
I've picked up a part of a run that I hear played with moderate tempo songs. I can't seem to complete it though.  If anyone knows this run and will share the theory behind this run, I may be able to complete it.  This is what I know.

Key of C#: played fast

up Ab, C#, F# down F, C#, Ab

then I think it continues down to F#, F, C#, Ab

it sounds like there's more to it though.  I remember hearing it on Commission's Time and Seasons cd- that song that goes like this
"hello my little dreamer".

IT'S IN Db, THE RUN IS BASED OF THE 1ST AND ENDS ON THE MAJ. 3RD. THINK OF IT IN THAT CONCEPT, AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO PLAY IT IN ANY KEY. IT ONLY USES THE NOTES IN THE SCALE OF THAT KEY:

C#_Ab_F#_F_C#_Ab_F#_F

Thanks Hammondman!  I'm starting to learn the run in other keys.  It makes it much easier to think of it as beginning with the 1st and ending on the 3rd degree.  I'm also working to make it smooth all the way down the keyboard.  Thanks

Circle of 4ths

That is just based on the 4th scale degree of each starting point.  The music from star trek or david lettermans top ten (I think it is 4ths but it may be 5ths)

Ab - Db
Db - Gb
Gb- B  etc..

coming down is seems like it just plays the 4th then plays the Db chord F, Dd, Ab
