I want your 2 cents
« on: May 08, 2004, 07:57:39 PM »
I wonder what would be the benefit of having a National Gospel Music Curriculum and Certification that every church musician would participate in.  I think one of the things that I feel is missing in this field is the need for all of us to be on the same page.  I believe this could help us bring consistency in and an assurance of quality to our churches.  I think it could help bridge the gap between the knowledge and practices of musicians.  I believe the certification process could bring additioanl validity to the craft of gospel.  Of course the sanctification of the musician couldn't  be certified, but maybe national retreats could help there.  I realize that GMWA and other conferences provide some of these services.  Web sites like this one also help to bring up the field.  I was thinking of something through distant learning from a college.  There's a college in Washington D.C. that offers a degree in gospel music, so maybe there are some possiblities there.  Please post comments and any information about already available programs.

The college that offers an assosiate and bachelors in music with various concentrations, one of which is in gospel music is The University of the District of Columbia.  I don't know how good the program is but one of the people who was afflilated with them was a musician named Kenneth Louis  who is a composer and was involved with  the DC chapter of GMWA.
