This post is for my home boy Nathan Bouie, Jr.  He and one of my other homies Demarco Harvey were gunned down in a senseless act of violence after a frat party in Kansas City on Saturday night.  He preceeds his father and mother (Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Bouie, Sr) and eldest sister (Julia Bouie) in death.

Nathan was the son of a Pastor of one of the churches in the area.  He played drums and keys.  On both of these instruments he was self-taught.  Although he was not virtuostic in either, he had the desire, willingness and dedication to play either at a moments notice.  He was also an influential youth mentor in the Progressive Baptist Convention and our local Baptist conventions.  I don't remember all of the titles he had in the Youth department, but my dude was a willing worker for GOD.

He was a student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  He was in his 3rd year.  He Plegded Phi Beta Sigma about a year ago, and had recently had his '03 Monte painted the color of his Sigma Cane.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!

I am tired of hearing of young brothers and sisters voices being silenced forever because of stupidity and ignorance.  It is WAY past time for us as a black/Christian to take a stand against the senseless violence that we commit against OURSELVES!!! There is no outside threat anymore because WE have become the threat. 

The silence is killing us guys....  Litterally. 

Lets help stop the nonsense and make a change.

I did not at all mean to downplay the loss of my homie Demarco.  He was not a musician, but loved GOD and music just the same.  He was working on his 3rd year at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.  I don't know as many specifics about him because we lost contact for a few years.

You know Sabe, it takes me back to the last conversation that we had.  That could have very easily been me because my friends and I were headed to that party.  We decided to go elsewhere.  Its crazy man.

Forgive me for taking up space on the board, but its really time for us to take a stand against violence in our cities.  We as christians need to decide that enough is enough.  Its time out for the stupid "stop snitching" shirts and all that crap.

The silence is killing us guys.

was this a party for CHRISTIANS?.....my pastor told me that whenever we step into darkness, we are out of God's covering.Those fraternities and even sororities can be a cold situation to be place ourselves in at times....may he rest in peace and condolences to his family.

JuSe, you are so right about the futility transgressions must cease. You can tell true state of a community by its manhood and womanhood. We must rise against this for the time is NOW. The future Black community is doomed if we don't strive for unity.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this brother as well. Morever, me being a member of Phi Beta Sigma, we all feel the loss when we lose a brother. Even more so, that is the Mighty Southwest Region in which I know there are good brothers in Kansas City. However, we all have the risks of events like the sort happening, because when we have parties and other events, you have people outside of the realm of the college scope. Believe it or not, most college students have a different mindset than people who do not attend. However, most of the time the "locals" are more anxious to attend these events rather than college students.
