You can learn your modal scales by simply shifting the major scale pattern you posted .
For Example
wwhwwwh=major (Ionion) next move the the first w to the end of the line for your dorian (minor 7th scale)
whwwwhw=dorian ... now move the first step to the last again for the Phrygian which is a minor scale
hwwwhww= Phrygian
continue to do this pattern for the following remainder in order
Lydian (Major)
Mixolydian (Major and Dominant 7th scale)
Aeolian (relative minor scale)
Locrian(dim)
Then back to the original Ionian.
Now if you just play scales like this it will probably not be rewarding however it is important to know how to harmonize scales. And what is really important is to build your scales from their respective chords and not just notes for example A Cmajor scale harmonised in chords
Cmaj7
Dmin7
Emin7
Fmaj or Fmaj6
G7
Amin7
Bdim7
Cmaj7
Now all those modal scales start to mean something
Probably the most used scales will be your pentonic scales ,because you will come up with most of your licks and runs out of those but what will help you the most is understanding that the scales are harmonized with chords and when your playing in a certain key or just improvising how to work over top individual chords using scales and pentonic scales to build your licks. Just knowing your chords gives you an arrpeggio or a sort of scale to work in already.
Well this is getting long, hope I kept it simple
