What is the purpose of progressions Aljeres.  I do not understand them.

without progressions, you really couldnt make songs.......they allow us to sort of make some sense to what we hear!.....chords are just chords....but progressions are a group of chords connected together to form some single direction for ya hearing! but people can make progressions in any way they like, and it doesnt always make sense to the listener.......but progressions complete a transition from one tone to another tone scale............everything ultimately comes from scales.....single notes! which is your bases of understanding, or foundation.....

Yes, thank you for the explanation.  I've been having a really hard time lately.  Been playing for about 6 or 7 years and still can't play congregational songs.  Had someone teach me a tight groove but it don't help me.  I just want to be able to get through a service actually knowing how to play every song that is sung.  Not just making up stuff.
