I was in the U.S. Army band. Stationed in Brookyn, NY for several years. My job was 02 November Piano Player. I was one of three black men in the band. I am from Gary, IN. about 25 miles east of Chicago. I have played with organists at some of the biggest churches in Chicago, as well as New York. I don't know much about the west coast. Naturally there will be some regional difference in how people talk. The world is a ghetto for black people. The fubu, backward hat wearing, sports attire is the same where ever you go. The white suits and shoes are a black church thing for men, however playing style is pretty much the same at all black churches. Organists who play too loud. Pianists who hit the keys so hard they break the strings. Pianists that use the piano pedals for a bass drum pedal. Musicians, take over, and push the current musician off the bench while he is playing.Musicians with the wrong attitude. Who don't act Christ like. Listen to the pianists and the organists who are recording, try to imitate that sound. Wherever(coast) they are from. Be worthy to record. Listen to the recordings critically. See if you hear a difference in playing styles between The LA Mass, Mississippi Mass, New York Restoration, Chicago Mass, New Jersey Mass, Colorado Mass. They are the standard, not Loud(drown out the choir) Leonard on organ at the church down the street.
