Is there a difference between Worship and Praise?
« on: July 11, 2006, 12:27:46 PM »
Here's a question which I need help. Is there a difference between worship and praise (that is GOD). Can you support your thought(s) with scriptures if possible?

GOD Bless

From what I understand...Praise is for what God has done....Worship is for who He is...I don't have my Bible with me right now, but this is what I've learned.....

From an online dictionary:

worship

1. a. The reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or a sacred object.
1. b. The ceremonies, prayers, or other religious forms by which this love is expressed.
2. Ardent devotion; adoration.

praise

1. Expression of approval, commendation, or admiration.
2. The extolling or exaltation of a deity, ruler, or hero.

From BibleGateway.com I get the following:

From Genesis through Revelation, the word or some form of the word "worship" is used 250 times. Not all of them are of a useage from man-to-God but many of them are and the general context that the word is used is one that is not to be taken lightly.

In the same way, the word "praise" or a form of the word is found 351 times from Genesis to Revelation and, again, not every useage is one of praise from man-to-God but in all situations it's useage is not one that is to be taken lightly.

From my own understanding of all of this:

It seems that "praise" is to "give thanks" and "worship" is to "bow down", although the hebrew definitions of both praise and worship are several and context comes into play to determine which hebrew word applies to what situation but in the context in which I think that's being refered to in the original post, imma go with the following:

praise = give thanks
worship = bow down
Music theory is not always music reality.

Praise is for what He has done and worship is what we do because of who God is in our lives and our worship also brings us to a deeper relationship with Him. It is not only that, But our worship helps us to get our breakthrough in the Spirit. Worship helps to ste the atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to move among His people and it also helps us to forget about everything else and keep our minds on Him AMEN!
