well the way that pod works it' acts as an amp modeler , meaning that it will try to replicate famous amp and cabinet combos, it also can provide some effects to your playing as well, i purchased the basspod xt live because i wanted a wah pedal and some other effects but by the time i bought 3 boss ex pedals and a wah i would've spent what i paid for my basspod xt.  Now it does amp modeling well to me considering i've only played around w/ a few of the real amps and cabs that are modeled, however that tone comes best through the headphones and is a good tool for studio or recording purposes but it wont make a cheap sound setup sound like an eden amp head and a 4 x 10 eden cabinet,i'm not sure if the regular bass pod has usb out but my pro does and i use it to run into fruity loops to do recording, best bet is to go to the line6 web page download and compare the specs on the amount of available models on the two because i believe he live is about $100 more than the regular bass pod , and it's a lot bigger in size because you'll be steppin on it, go to a guitar center if there's one near you and you can try out the pod , the sam ash near where i stay had the basspod live , and the rackmount model i tried all and this one suited my needs the best, thats really the best advice see which one suits your needs if it's somethiin' you want to purchase

Yazakar, I don't have a Bass pod, but a few years ago I bought the Boss GT6B. I was interested in thje amp modeling and the effects. What was really goping on was that I was not happy with the sound of my equipment then. As it turned out the GT6B helped a little, but any time you have to turn to modeling and effects to achieve a good basic sound, it's not going to work to well. Bottom line for me was that I had to upgrade my amp, preamp and bass. Now, the GT6B is mainly a big, red $400 tuner. :)

I was one of the first people in the UK to own a Bass POD!  I used it in the studio a couple of times and it was pretty good, but I used it for home practice through a pair of cans mostly.  I didn't think it was a good as the Guitar POD, which I also own.  I dunno, I thought the tones were pretty good when listening to playback and the compressor was very good when I used it in the studio, but there was only a couple of amp settings I used...just the Eden and SWR if I remember correctly.  I thought the effects were useless and the cab sims were just a glorified EQ adjustment...I never thought they were useful at all.  I bought the XT rackmount 2yrs ago and I use it everytime I go into the studio.  Its a huge improvement to the original Bass POD.  I still don't use the cab sims, but I use a lot more of the amp sims and the effects are so much better, more authentic and useable than the old Bass POD offered.  I only used the Bass POD and XT live on a couple of occasions because I already have a great amp that has never had its settings altered for more than 3yrs and a huge floorboard full of pedals anyway, so it's pretty redundant on stage for my needs.
