Just a question

If you have a 5 string bass how can you use a book that teaches, using a 4 string bass

the 5 string is setup just like a 4 string but it has an extra lower string.  all you have to do is use the bottom 4 strings in conjunction with the book and once you realize that the lowest string is a 5th scale degree lower than the 4th string. then you incorporate that.  a 4 string is strung,  E A D G and a 5 string is strung  B E A D G.  you can easily see that they are the same, just one has more strings.  I hope I don't sound confusing

Leave your plucking hand thumb anchored on the B string (the fattest one), and ignore it while you are working out of a 4 string book.
