How many musicians do you have at your church.

Praise the Lord everybody. I'm here talking about the quantity of musicians at different churches. The church I play at has only 2 musicians. We have the drummer, me and the organist. Should we have more musicians or is that enough. :?  How many musicians do you have.

                     Bless You,

That depends on your needs. My church has musicians for the folloeing instruments:
Organ
2 Keyboards
Bass
Lead Guitar
Drums
Trumpet
Saxophone

The band is "tight". Each instrument compliments the other, not dominates

There are only 2 musicians at my chruch me and the drummer.  My church is a word based church so depending on the song I go from key to organ.  I find it difficult to do some praise and worship songs on the organ.  It just does not have the same effect

Number of Musicians
« Reply #7 on: July 27, 2004, 12:31:31 AM »
It's amazing how the number of instruments used in worship has increased.  There was a time when it was basically organ (pipe) and piano. Now in some churches its like Saturday Night at the Apollo.  The band is playing so loud you can't hear the congregation/choir sing.  Now to the question that was asked...we have two musicians.  I'm on the organ (Rodgers 945) and my sons on the grand piano.  The Rodgers has a PR300 sequencer so it's like having a keyboard..you can get 300+ sounds out of that can be added to the traditional organ sound or played by itself.  So we can due pretty much all types of music.

Will the real musicians stand up?

I like that band talk. That sounds good to me. I'm not sure how many musicians are at the church I'm playing for now. There are three others who can at least play traditional songs on piano. One lady is undependable. She's the resident pro, but she doesn't play much. I can't figure her out . But I will. I'm the new kid on the block I play both instruments. By the way, someone convinced the elder/superintendent into buying a Baldwin Organ   Its funny. No, its tragic. So far it looks like it doesn't even have a Leslie. :o  I am not a happy camper. There are a couple of older sisters, who wanted to show me they could play a tune or two, however they just sit in the congregation. They played a number for me at the last rehearsal I was at. This woman that they are supposed to be paying just sits there during down time in the service. Its like she's not spiritually in tune with the service. Too many dry spots with no one talking, and no music. I don't want to take over, but she is going to force me. They hired a young guy from Detroit to come down and play keyboard, the first night I came into town. He sounded good on contemporary tunes, but had some problems with traditional tunes. He played nice preacher chords in BMajor. The Detroit bishop was in town. Four musicians including me. Who knows how many are out there in the crowd?
The greatest mistake most amateur musicians make is giving up.  Don't give up !!!

Dear Evangelist215,
Why do you put yourself down by saying you are a half musician. God has given all of us talents, some greater than others, but he said all things work together for the good of them that love the lord.  I myself need improvement but I think I'm good at what the Lord has entrusted in me and I strive to be better. Speak It Into Exsistancs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At my church we have the following musicians
keyboards-----Yours Truely
Organ/ Keyboard_______my sister
Lead Guitar____________ my husband
Bass Guitar _____________ church member, and my son's firend
Drums/percussions_________ my son

Praise Ye the Lord With Instruments; It wasn't always this way.
Cheer Up / Your name is Evanglelist215 so do it with attitude.
Favor ain't fair.

I go to a very small church and the only musician that they have is me. I play every Sunday. We only have a Yamaha DGX-500 Keyboard at the moment. If the Lord will, and we build our new church someday, the pastor plans to have a grand piano and an organ..I'll most likely still be the only musician they have.

All I can say is pray about it and bring it up to whoever can make a difference. Other than that, you guys could start your own band (outside church) and get with other musicians in your area to do concerts. This will eventually break them in when they see you performing.

My answer was to just do it, so I just initiated it. It was uncomfortable at first and I still "have the devil in me" according to some, if you know what I mean, but now, the majority of the people are comfortable when they see us switch instruments. Your answer may have you do something totally different.

Thanks alot for the suggestion, I will be prayin about it.  I believe that I'm gonna let the Lord work it out for us.

Our church is kind of small so I can see why we only have 2 musicians. Our pianist only plays when our organist isn't there, but our pianist is the organist mother. :? I'm there for every service we have. :)  :)
