i'm no pro at this at all, but i will throw in my two cents..........playing behind the preacher is definitley about timing, it takes much practice and consistency......i would say; it's really up to the style of the preacher...if he or she has a cadence style of ministering, it is easier, but some just give a stright shot, it's like playing a song, and you need to really pay attention to when it's time to move the chord.....holding it is sort of like a hit, but sometimes, the preacher is holding the breath, so you hold the chord.......it's really like trial and error........but stick with it, and you'll be fine.........since you have chords, you don't need mine, have fun, and be blessed!
gieres.....

Hi,
a sneaky shortcut I use sometimes is the two octave bass notes and move up the scale as in a thunder roll....chances are the minister is never going to be in the key you might want them to be....so you cover the scale with   the octave up movement and a single note in the right hand until you reach his or her break point...then hit whatever chord you are on at that moment.

It worked for me....maybe it'll work for you.

Peace    :)
