Hey guys i'm about to get a EMAD II for my church's Yamaha Recording Custom drum set. I was wondering what to put on the resonant side. It still has the orginal head on it. How does the big vent hole affect the sound??? help me out....thanks God Bless.

I personally like the EMAD Reso, but others may suggest the EQ3 which is nice too. Its a good combo with an EMAD, haven't tried it with an EMAD2.

God Bless.

the EQ3 has a few options, Black, Coated and Frosted. I will take the Black, for example, since its what I had. The EQ3 has an eternal control ring around the head. It has a short decay and in my opinion is more focused and punchy than an EMAD Reso.

The EMAD Reso is definitely more adjustable. The 2 rings make a substantial difference. You can create a punchy sound with it as well, but I would say its warmer and boomier than the EQ3 Black. IMHO.

God Bless.

Thanks for the help man. 'preciate it. I think I might go with the EMAD resonant. I want a warmer boomier sound. God Bless.

I use a SuperKick I with stock reso - 5" off center vent hole. The stock heads on my kit (Gretsch Catalina Maple) are supposedly Evans, but I don't think they are...no Evans logo or name anywhere on the head, so I think it really is just stock.

The only thing in the drum is a medium-sized towel rolled up and tied off with some old shoe strings against the reso.

Fills up a room (or sanctuary)  in a live setting...haven't recorded with it so I'm not sure how it comes across on wax.
