Snare Drum Heaven
« on: March 23, 2007, 08:40:05 AM »
I noticed alot of threads about what is the best snare drum to get.....I pondered for quite some time about what snare would fit me best....I've gone through alot of snares and now i've found a snare that is beautiful and sounds very good.....I've had the Free Floating snares both the 4X14 and 6.5X14, the 7X13 Akiro snare, the Musashi, and the DW edge....nothing comes close in sounds or looks to this 07 model of the Mapex Black Panther Birdseye Maple 6.5X14 inch.....Check your nearest drum shop and play it to end all of the snare drum buying decision dilemma.......

ok.......lol i checked just now and they are $359.99 every where I've been
i looked at a thread in the drummerworld forum and cats over there are sayin that the Evans Genera (single ply) is
the best for it.....
(Remo Ambassador is to ringy and Power stroke 3 chokes it)

I WILL agree that the Ambassador does not control this snare enough, but the Genera (from personal experience) is a little TOO controlling. I have 2 Black Panthers (12x 5.5 & 12x 7) and they both sound GREAT with the Aquarian coated Studio X. Cuts out just enough overtones without sacrificing the volume or sensitivity. Just try it if you have the extra dough. And this is not from a forum, this is from my actual experience with these drums and these heads.

yeah, Ambassodors dont control it enough, no matter how i tune it, too much ring, but like JFunky said the Black Panthers are the truth.  i have a maple one now, but i might get a brass one next

I believe Mapex has either realized the quality of these snares or they are in great demand b/c these snares have increased at least $50 more than what I paid for my 14x6.5 just two weeks ago.....oooooo I'm glad I hopped on that price b/c it is now $419 versus $359.
