well......this doesn't go just for drummers but I did post this in our side of the site.
J_kay and I have both experienced this with other musicians though. I'll leave it at that. lol
This is true.
But for some reason it's much more prevalent in drummers.
I visited a church that fellowships with my church alot, and a drummer from another visiting church was playing.
Homeboy was SUPER loud and was putting all kinds of fills where they didn't belong.I'm watching the Organist TRY to tell this brotha to play it simple.
The Organist eventually shook his head and gave up.
At the end of the service
a visiting minister had to ask homey to reign it in because he was playing licks WHILE SHE WAS TRYING TO SPEAK.Man, I was actually getting ANGRY at this guy. That was the most blatant, outright SELFISH display of immaturity I've ever seen.
You'll always find a Keys player or an Organist playing LOUD "talk" music behind a Pastor, or playing a simple hymn with crazy runs and dissonant chords.....
But drummers are the backbone of a band. A bad drummer will ruin a groove quicker than anything else. We have a greater responsibility (and I say this as someone who's transitioning to the Organ...).
