Quiet time chords in C# Part I
« on: August 13, 2004, 02:57:54 PM »
Here are some chords that I use for those "quiet times" in service.

key of C#
roll each note starting with the LH
Eb,Bb,C#/FF#AbBbC#
Play regularly from here out
FC/EbAbC#     (FC/Absus4)
GEb/FBbEb      (GEb/Bbsus4)
AbF#/BbC#F   (AbF#/Bbmin)
FEb/AbCEbAb  (FEb/Abmaj)
--/Bb
BbAb/CEbGBb  (BbAb/Cmin7)
Add these tension chords
BbAb/DF#BbC#  (BbAb/Daug)
EBE/AbDF#Bb     (EBE/AbDF#Bb)
EbC#/GC#FA      (EbC#/GC#FA)
--/Bb
AbF#/BbC#FAb   (AbF#/Bbmin7)
AbF#/BbCFAb     (AbF#/BbCFAb)
Roll this:
C#AbC#/AbC#FAb  (C#AbC#/C#maj)

I'm in the process of learning these techniques.  Tell me how should they be played the chords in the parenthesis.  e.g. (FC/Absus4)  what does that mean?

You play F and C on your left hand and the Absus4 (Ab C# Eb) on your right hand.

When i see this right hand chord "Absus4"... does that mean in Ab chord?

what do you  mean?   Do you mean are these chords in the key of Ab or do you mean is that an Ab-chord?

He means that it is an Ab chord with the 4th (a C#) being played.  "Sus" means suspended (?) and you suspend or hold that scale degree, in this case its the 4th (C#).  If it said Absus2 or Ab2 then you hold the Bb because its the 2nd note in the scale of Ab.  Got it!??!

Its important that you learn your chord names.  That way if you are in a rehearsal, someone can just say Bbmaj7 (#5) and you will know exactly what they mean rather than them spelling out the entire chord.  Im not sure where you can go learn them, but the internet is almost neverending.

Aug...is short for Augmented...which means that u simply sharp the 5th or in other words...take the 5th scale degree note and half-step it up.

In C...Major chord (1 3 5)...C E G
Augmented chord (1 3 #5)..C E Ab

Go to the link on my last post on this thread and print those formulas out...it will save u some time..

Hope this helps!!
