Tube amp
« on: June 24, 2007, 08:19:45 PM »
Hey ya'll!!!  Hopefully everybody is well.  Its been a while since I've posted up a message!!!  Anyway, I am thinkin' about getting a new amp.  I play with the Line 6 Spider II 210!!!  I love it but I just love the tone that I get from usin' a Fender Deville even more!!!  So Im really considerin' tradin' my amp in for that!!!  The concern I have with this is; im a musician who travels alot to different gigs and ya'll know how they never have a amp for the guitarist so we have to bring our own.  So with that info would it be a good idea to get a tube amp or should i just stick with the solid state?  Im wonderin' if the bumps and bangs of bein' pulled in and out of a trunk and these pot holes that America caresless about would do any damage!!!  Thanx in advance!!!  Ya'll be blessed!!!

Brother, I recently switched from using a Line 6 Spider II in church to using an Epiphone Valve Standard; 75 watt modeling amp to 15 watt Class A all-tube amp.
I'm a happy guy. I used the Line 6 for about 3 years or so and am still happy with the amp, overall...I use it for home recording now, a position it seems well suited for...but I missed the sound of tubes and the new Epi gives me that sound.
My big quest right now is for a decent overdrive/distortion unit.
I'm using my modded Boss DS-1 and it's ok but it's got a lot of squish to it...the mod added some compression that is a bit much for my tastes. Either I'll re-mod it and try to take some of the squish away or I'll replace it with something else.
Lack of funds prevents me from doing anything so I'm gonna be thankful for what I have and use it to God's glory for as long as I have to.

You do have to be a little careful with a tube amp. Can't go slamming it around. And the Blues Deville is a L O U D amp! 60 watts for a tube amp is crazy loud and you might not get to crank the thing up to useable territory if the rooms you play in are small. That's why I went with a 15 watter...even my 30 watt Peavey Delta Blues is too loud for my church and we seat over 800 people.
Maybe the Deluxe is better suited for you if you're restricted to small rooms.
If not, go for the Deville.

+1 on what Dave said.

I rarely had to turn my 30 watter up past 3 or 4 (on a dial that went to 12). Have fun with the amp hunt.

Dave,I have a Peavey Transube EFX 212 that I use for church, since it's the only amp I have.Would a VOX all tube 15 watt be suitable for a small-medium size church? We do all the instruments live,so we don't have any of them miced.Would this be plenty loud enough?

Yeah, the stage volume at my church is unbelievable. We just installed a new sound system in my church (speakers, sound board, jacks, mics, the whole nine), but we haven't gotten the instruments incorporated into the works yet so the only thing going into the house are the bass and the keys.
