It's also important to remember that what is considered Jazz Harmony comes from classical music.
Jazz musicians like Duke Ellington and Art Tatum were fans of classical music. Duke Ellington said that he was greatly influenced by stravinsky and debussy. Art Tatum used to take some of his runs from lizst and chopin. Alot of advanced jazz harmony can be found in classical music from the 19th century.

You all are naming some good ones who are my favorite......Kevin Bond, Cedric Thompson, Jason White, Asaph Ward, P.J. Morgan, John Peters.  I'll add to that Kim Burrell's musicians (I don't know their names), James Brown(he did damage on D. Coley's live in Memphis album), and Cedric Dent(sings with Take 6, but has a doctorate in music.......sick!)

I have to say Richard Smallwood is my number one fav, then Charles Harmon (our keyboardist/organist at Ben Hill UMC), then Smokie Norful, and then me -- hey, if I don't say it, who will?
