No, I feel if the musicians aren't getting paid-the pastor better be the only one getting paid. Music is an important part of services and so much goes into preparation and sacrifices to ensure a quality Sunday Worship Experience.

@ the same time if a church cant pay their musicians, then that means nobody else should b paid besides the pastor (ie: secretaries, admins, sextons, etc.) pay need to be cut or reduced... Believe it or not, next 2 the pastor ppl depend on music/Choir these days to pull the service

And this is issue really is based upon personal feelings of the musician as well. There's a spiritual side and a business side of Church... Just my 2cents

I would continue to play for my ministry if they couldnt continue to give me a salary! Ministry should always be first, because when you give of yourself the Lord will take care of the rest!!!

Let me ask this question,Do you think most preachers would stop preaching if they didnt get paid????????? As for myself, see, I travel at least 35 min. to get to church,so would I stop playing for the Lord?,NO but I wo'nt play at that church..Also understand, I come from a big church with lots of money, doing big things....

Yes, I would if God told me He was going to pay me. :)

Sometimes you have ask yourself, the question, if my needs are already being met from employment or self employment, do I make the sacrifice so that I can minister deliverance through my music.

If i had to travel and be away from my family where it would require me to pay for food, hotel, etc out of my pocket, should the ministry be meeting my needs.

Most ministries pay their ministers of music. Those that can afford to do so. Those that can't just pray that someone will come along and continue to make the sacrifice. Believe it or not even the church is tax exempt but the IRS still considers the church as a business establishment.

I have been on both ends of this debate. Our true desire is to uplift God. The payment or donation is just a blessing coming through. I would continue anyway. Now if the church offers to pay why not accept it?

in the drummers forum this question has come up several times but still the question remains For What exact Services is the church paying you for? Talent, being a good and faithful christian member.  There nothing wrong with getting a payment, but does a church body have pay you for coming to bible study, coming to prayer, ministering to others, being a witness to others in christ and bringing in new members to church?

Yes I will still play.  There were times when my church wasn't able to pay me and still is not, but just started back due to me losing my regular job. When the Lord bless me with another job, I will not be accepting a salary from my church.

I know how you feel piano wiz. I've never been paid much for playing either.  But this is my take on it.  If you are truly playing for the Lord, he will make sure you are compensated whether it be from your church or someone else.  I played for my church for a long time, but when I left for about 3 years due to a military move, the church that I played for at my new duty station gave me an appreciation every year I was there.  I never asked for anything from them-they just found room in their hearts to hold a car wash and raise money for me any way they could.  This church was smaller than the one I had left.  I think musicians should be compensated, especially if they are dragging their own equipment back and forth to church every week.

My Opinion on this is that .... God is the giver of every gift . There are some musicians that Live on music majorly and as such earn from the pay in Church .  For me ... if they stop my payment ,that doesnt stop me from serving there but its also depends on what The Lord is Telling me concerning the action taken . God may have another open door that is greater than that of Church's pay . Even God doesn't want a labourer to ''sweat in vain''

I have been playing drums for my home church since I was 7. I'm 25 now and I have never been paid a dime. I would still keep playing. Even if it wasn't my home church. God has given all of us gitfs and when it's all said and done, he is going to ask us what did we do with what he gave us. So, my answer is YES!
