Yeah definitely get the extra 8" pad. I can't that where I am & it would've been a real nice addition.

I have no idea. I live in New Zealand & it took me a whole year just to find a store here that sold the actual practice kit alone (They weren't bringing in the 8" either).

You'll have to check online but from what I've been told its very cheap.

From memory juSe has this practice kit with the 8" pad. Ask him.

He will see this....

I see ALL now!   ;)

I have been following this topic all day at work, but didn't have the chance to post anything.  So here's my take that I have been formulating all day.

*clears throat*

JoJo's DVD is the coldest thing on the market for hand technique.  Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Welcome to the board L-Boogie (Student21).  So respectful this guy is.  Calling everyone Mr. and saying yes sir, and no sir and signing his posts with his FULL BIRTH NAME!  :D  You get a gold star for that, but its not necessasary to be so formal.  Your opinions about gospelcops.com are your views and you are entitled to them.  I don't too much disagree with you in some aspects of your take.  But the thing to keep in mind is that it is FREE.  Another thing is fLaTfIfTh is in essence trying to change the way gospel drumming is viewed.  He is trying to educate cats that play gospel music with the cats that they/we admire and are on the scene.  If you look at a lot of those guys, they are a lot of times not educated in the craft formally.  So a lot of the education will be informal.  fLaT is trying to change that culture.  I will say keep your eyes on gc.com.  I am willing to bet you that there are some changes and new things on the horizon...  Starting with the SSV2 DVD.  ;)

How could one formulate that playing on a pillow is bad for you?  If thats the case, Dennis Chambers is a fraud!  ;D  Playing on a pillow is good for you because it forces you to work on the down stroke AND the up storke.  Your have to pay attention to the little things because one must isolate the mechanics of the stroke to get the stick back from the pillow.

I do have the DW practice kit, but I do not have the additional add-on pad.  Can't speak too much to that one.  I thought J-Stank had the 8" pad...  I could be wrong.  :-\

I didn't know pillows were bad, my cousin told me a long time ago that they were good so I just took his word for it, lol.  Education is the nemesis of ignorance,  thanks for the enlightenment.  Oh, and thanks keys for your question, I learned a lot in this thread.  I'm gonna grab that dvd and book.

No problem. I ask these questions so that I can get an understanding but realizing I am not the only one who is misinformed.

Amazon is selling it for $32

I am def buying JoJo's DVD from the clips I have seen. I thought the pillows helped with speed. In TR Jr. dvd he said to practice on pillows or something with no rebound. Last night when I practiced I had to problem doing it on the snare at all and my arms didn't hurt and I didn't get tired fast. So is the pillows helping or hurting?

I concur on the Jojo DVD... Nothing nothing nothing will work without effort effort effort! STRIVE/Striving to be ambidextrous via hands/feet is next level. Time to start sweating!  :'( ?/? :( >:( As far the DW pad set I too possess plus the 8' add on. I must say I like the hardware; the pads are the absolute worst, which I replaced. On the new DW pad set the bass pad is thicker and I believe the others are the same. For practice, the price and convenience aspects it’s a good investment.

I think you may have to purchase that add on online, that's where I purchased mine. However, I did buy the pad kit locally GC nor Sam Ash had the add on.

 8)  wasssup.....time for my 2 cents  ;D
I agree with the practise pads i agree with the pillow....i have also heard that dennis chambers does rudiments with telephone directories duct-taped to his arms to add resistance or weight (dont know how true that is) but any mechanism of practise that adds resistance will definately make you stronger.

Drums is a physical instrument and attention needs to be paid as well to strength training

as for the left hand issue not all of us a ambidetrius (mind the spelling)  8) which is why i have what i call left hand days. where i purposely do everything with my left hand for that day----whether its opening a car door flushing the loo i even put my wrist watch on my right arm as apposed to my normal left hand.....this helps as well trust me. cos now i am forcing my left limb to develop. i even write out like the alphabet with my leftie or take message or use my phone or whatever up till now i have reach 3 lefthand days a week. it feels funny at first but im getting used to it and it is helping so give that a shot

This concept works as follows if your right handed usually you utilse the left side of your brain now using your left hand forces the right side of your brain to kick in, now your using both sides of your brain which means that you are using more of your brain then normal......ever heard them say two heads are better than one...well i say both sides of the brain is better than one

When I broke my right wrist I was forced to use my left hand for everything. Last night when I went to my homeboy crib he flipped his set to a left hand set. I thought it was strange but he is focusing on being able to use his whole body fluently. I might try it with the practice kit tonight

I think you could pratice everyday with a broken that is no so easy to get faet or put some thing heavy on i t so when you play after you will get faster and faters as you keep pratice. NO with the left I think ues your left hand as much as the right  with any thing then It wont feel erong and not right now that you use both for every thing.

I think you could pratice everyday with a broken that is not so easy to get fast,(idk?) or put something heavy on your arms(weights) and play with it on(?), you will get faster and faster as you keep praticing. Use the left hand to do the things that you usually do with the right hand.  After a while it wont feel wrong(weird) and later you'll be able to use both for every thing and have the same natural feel.
