you know what I noticed though... Is that even some professional gospel musicians can't play in every key..... I was listening to Presence of the Lord by Byron Cage and I noticed that the song kept going up half steps, until it got to the key of Eb... I was thinking to myself, "I bet you won't modulate to E natural (which is a hard key to play in for many gospel organists).... and sho' nuff, they skipped that key and went straight to F!!!! (I wonder why???)...

I've heard several songs that skip keys like D,E,A, and B... alot of songs skip from Bb to C and from Db to Eb and so on....

You're absolutely correct. I noticed that too, but I didn't try to connect it together.

You're exactly right....that's why those musicians need to come to LGM so they can learn from people who are masters of every key. ;) My goal is that I will know how to play something in every key by the end of this year. I just started really learning to play progressions in every key in July and I am determined to be more than just an average musician. Please pray 4 me because it gets frustrating at times but I ain't gone quit though  ;D

but i with you chevonne, i'm still learning, you not their are some musicians been playing for over 20 years and they will tell you that they're is learning.

I've been "playing" for almost 20 years. I didn't get serious until 5 years ago.

For some reason, G is harder for me now than B.

I remember when I could play in most other keys, but could only play basic chords in C and G.  Other musicians would say playing in C and G was easy...but (I guess for that reason) I didn't take the time to transpose what I knew in other keys to those keys.  I think one problem with musicians playing in D, E, A, etc., sharrp keys is relative to sharps or flats...at least for those who also read music.  I feel more comfortable reading or dealing with music in flat keys, rather than sharp keys...I just don't like reading music in sharp keys and I guess it rolls over even when I'm playing by ear.

Even though I can play in all keys now...I still prefer playing in flat keys rather than sharp keys.

I've noticed that for a loooonnngggg time.  Like on the new Marvin Sapp CD, on that song "Shout Unto God", the song ends in the key of A, but then whoever was playing modulated back down to Ab.  I was like "What da ham sammich?", I guess A wasn't his key, LOL.
Real musicians play in every key!!!

That's what I've been told too. I am a geek though so, I decided to write down a song that I know that's easy to me and then I transposed it on paper until I had it written out in every key. Then I went to the keyboard and started to play it in what I call my "trouble keys"....now I am atleast able to play something in every key. I am trying to do that on simple songs first and then I'll go up the food chain.. ;) ;) Everyone calls me a geek for doing this but if you want something bad enough, you'll do whatcha gotta do to get it.....can I get a AMEN!! ;D **runs to the organ to hit that Bb shout**
