I feel so alone.

The fact is not many people can effectively teach this style of playing.  Most of the up-and-coming musicians are in the contemporary style of playing.  The ones who can play the old school style aren't stepping up and posting more information here, which is a tragedy.
Real musicians play in every key!!!

OK, I guess I should stop hanging with the young people and come in here lol
sure, I love the traditional style of playing and all those wonderful chords that really bring an uplift to the music. Ole songs like:

I'm so glad Jesus lifted me
I was glad when they said unto me
You don't know like I know ( what He's done for me)
Saved by His Power Devine
Real, real Jesus is Real to Me
Can't Nobody do Me Like Jesus
I cried and He delievered Me
I'm so glad that the Lord saved me
Wonderful Jesus is to me
In the morning when I rise

and many more.............
I love music, any kind of music.

Love the contemporary and progressive.  However, my roots are old school and traditional which I love the most.  This is the basis of it all.  Count me in for real.
I've been doing it a very long time.  I can get as contemp as can be and can also do the same for old school traditional.  It is nice to be well versed in both.

I love all kinds of music but my church is stuck in a time warp.....LOL. Naw I'm joking...but I would seriously love to get more info on traditional music. I am still trying to learn more about playing hymns and things of that nature, there are some pretty good posts in the Gospel Keyboard forum. I've been trying to study Mr. Tolberts materials in order to make my hymns sound better. I think that the traditional songs usually use the 1-4-5 progression...correct?

Thank's SisterCM for your call.  I too would like to keep this forum going. I was glad to see this forum created but I seldom post and I have never posted in this forum ... never knew what to say.

We mostly sing traditional songs in my church.  Here's some of the songs we sung in church last night ....

In the Word of God I've Got a Place
Jesus Is the Light
It's Nobody's Fault But Mine
I Love To Praise Him
Glory, Glory Hallejuah
He's Sweet I Know

I'm new to this site, but not new to the traditional style of music. I love all kinds of music, but traditional music (in which I play) moves my soul. Traditional music gives me that uplifting I need to get through life situations we must face. There's nothing wrong with new music and music styles, but we can't forget the songs and hymns that paved the way for our parents and grandparents. This is like ignoring our history, our foreparents, our culture, and the foundation our families established which was built on faith and God's righteousness. So traditional means more to me than "the Old Songs", because these songs expresses feelings, real meanings, and tell a story. Some of these songs were created by our oppressed relatives suffering with civil rights issues, racism, and slavery. So when you hear those "old songs", remember it was those songs that helped our families get through those oppressing times, to allow us to be where we are today.

I definitely prefer traditional over contemporary, but I rarely check this room because of the lack of interested people. :(  I guess I'm not really helping the situation. :-\

Im young but i think those old hymns are the songs when a organist can show is talents the best because the old songs have meaning and when you play it good it brings the meaning out more but in the new gospel its more of sound good thing!

Does anybody know the lyrics to "In the word of God I've got a place.  Thanks,
I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.  Psalm 34:4

We sing this song often.  In fact, it is a favorite song of one of deacons. This is how we sing it:

In the word of God, I've got a place
In the word of God, I've got a place
In the word of God, I've got a place
I've got a place in the word of God.

Then we improvise
In the word of God, I've got joy, etc

I searched the internet for lyrics.  I came up empty.  I hope someone will come up with more complete lyrics.
