I used to know a couple of people w/ these names:
Michelle Bell
Peter Long

Michelle's parent's named her after the song "Michelle, my bell".

Peter Long was in my youth group yrs ago.  Someone that went to school w/ him told me one day, he's in a class in school, and the teacher called the names on the roll "Last Name, First".  When she got to his name, everyone laughed.

Also, my dad loves to watch NASCAR.  I've always wondered, what were Dick Trickle's parents thinking when they named him?  It sounds dirty.
dirty sounding indeed. lol

I gotta agree with Jonathan on this. I like to think these parents are overcompensating for their ignorance. The sad part is that some of them really are pretty creative, but they're using it to enhance their ghettobility... Well, of course the other sad part is that after enduring years of teasing and teachers not being able to pronounce their names, they eventually will have to put those ridiculous names on a job application.

That said, although this isn't that strange of a name, my ex's cousin's last name is Binns. They named their daughter Mercedes.

I also met a girl on the train whose daughter's name was Alize.

When my lady was pregnant with our son, I told her that if we had a girl, I wanted to name her Alize' Chardonnay.  If it was a boy, we would call him Chandon Patr'on.  Of course I was kidding, but she didn't know that.

This really should be common sense, but here are a few things to consider when naming your baby...

  • If you're about to name your child after a liquor product then you need to be backhanded, then hit again with a fronthand chaser.  Don't doom your kid to a lifetime hangover from that name.
  • If you have a bunch of accent marks, apostrophes, and special characters in the name that you're about to give your child, please reconsider.  You'll look stupid, your kid won't be able to pronounce, spell, or write their own name until they're 7, and school administrators will frequently curse you each time that they have break out the Windows Character Map in order to type your kid's ghetto fab name.
  • Don't go naming your child something like Princess, Beauty, or sometihng like that if your child is crack-o'-tha-rump ugly from birth.  You're only fooling yourself, and making life even harder for your ugly kid.
  • I'm all for biblically sound names... but do you think your child will really appreciate that name?  You know, one of the ones that most folks trip and stumble across during scripture readings?  Let's mix in a lil' common sense with that extra-holiness, mmmkay?
  • You attend church barely on holidays, and don't touch a bible in between... so before you just go picking out a name from the Word at random, how about you at least ask someone who would know if the name you're picking is that of a "good" or "bad" person?  Little Jezzie thanks you in advance.
  • Your parents gave you a jacked up name and you suffered for it.  Do you really need to pass on the suffering to your kids?  Break the chain, my friend... break the chain.
  • I know that you loved Chaka Khan when you were coming up, I dig Chaka myself... but do you really wanna name your little boy Rufus?  Really??

That's all for now.

Well, the name Rufus actually predates the band. But I would see people using the band as a reason to choose the name now instead of other reasons.

That's what I'm getting at.  I'm sure there's some kid out there named Dru Hill that has to keep explaining his parents' infatuation with some singing group...[/list]

I was gonna name my son Jubal from the book of Genesis.  Of course he was a harp maker and the first musician.  I was trying to be unique and I wanted the name to have meaning.  But whenever someone asked me what was I gonna name my boy, and I said Jubal, nobody knew who I was talking about except for one person.  I didn't want to curse him to a lifetime of having to explain his name.

but that name is good, (especially if he turned out to be a sick musician)  In biblical times, the person's name determined who ther were.(mostly). There's a tie to the child's purpose in the name. (i beleive)

When i have my lil' wolfy, she'll be named Kaira, from greek word Kairos, meaning right, "or opportune moment" or in our theology, "the appointed time in the purpose of God"

    anywhoo, back to the topic.....

I had to read some names "announcer-style" at church recently, someone's name was VENDETTA......

mebbe Charles Bronson was her pops.

That cracks me up!!! Charles Bronson.. Ha Ha

Most unusual names have stories to go with them. I think they are very interesting. People have the right to name their kids whatever they want. It doesn't matter if people approve or not.

We have this sister at our church named Anita and she married a oriental gentleman with the last name of "Thong"... I kid you not!  They were having a banquet for my pastor and they asked for her to make an presentation, so you can imagine the young people outside crackin up as they heard, "Sis Anita Thong... let give it up for Anita Thong everybody!" over the PA system.

    HILARIOUS!!!!!!  :D :D
    LoL  :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I dunno if someone has already said this or not but the funniest name that you can give a child is "Dick"....lol :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

My best friend used to work with a guy named Richard Head.  Naturally, they called him Dick be it his name was Richard.  When he got phone calls, they would page him over the PA and say(Nickname and last name together) you have a phone call. :o

I think you know where I'm going.

He would get so mad.  Yes, this one's true too.

In a similar case, my old JROTC Captain was named Richard Seaman. So you guessed it over the PA system they would call him Dick Seaman. One a couple of occassions for some reason, they found it necessary to call him Richard "Dick" Seaman as if he wouldn't know his first and last name.
I won't take nothing for my journey now. No turnin' back, no turnin' back.

    Seriously.

Also remember the b-ball player for the Orlando Magics, Anfernee Hardaway?  You KNOW his parents were trying to name him Anthony but hadn't got hooked on phonics yet.

I used to think it was odd to see women with what I thought were men's names. Older ladies in the church have names such as "Eddie Mae", "Johnnie Mae", and "Willie Ruth".
