I wanted to weigh in on this topic…by no means is it exhaustive ( but if you want more details, email me directly). I absolutely advocate that musicians, and anyone else in ministry offer themselves as a holy, and acceptable gift to our Holy God…but we know for many this is not the case….but in regards of whether not someone is “anointed” or just “gifted” I thought we could all come to better understanding if we layed out exactly what all that meant…what does it mean to be anointed? I’d imagine many of us would have different interpretations…in the OT, things, prophets, priests, and kings were all anointed..It simply means a smearing, or rubbing, and it was done typically with oil as a sign of consecration to God, or to a work or service for God….Someone mentioned Romans 11:29 (….the gifts of God are without repentance) gifts in that sense is Charisma and refers to a divine grace that empowers for service…whereas the anointing mentioned in I John 2:20-27 is Chrisma and has to do more with a smearing….I imagine that many of you have received prayer and was “anointed” with oil(extra virgin..lol)..which was symbolic of the holy spirit…so in general terms most cases in scripture where you see anoint, it has to do with oil being smeared or rubbed on something or someone to designate them for assignment or purpose, and was most often performed by a human…..However, we see another type of anointing in II Corinthians chapter 1, where the anointing comes from God himself Chrio, and it is the power that was at work in Christ, and the same power that should be at work in us as believers, and his followers…so you study the scripture, pray and ask that truth be revealed to
As I close and take my seat, (key of F sharp triple flat please) let me mention that Matt chapter 7 gives an interesting account…”many will prophesy in my name, cast out devils in my name” This sounds like many preachers, Reverend Doctors, and Apostles that are in our pulpits, and on our TV screens. They have all the appearance of being called, anointed, and appointed,….These were being used to do tremendous works… teach the truth, they were prophesying and casting out devils???...these are the ones that we celebrate as being “anointed”…yet they bust hell wide open, and Jesus considered them workers of iniquity..because they didn’t’ have proper personal relationship to Christ, they were not connected with his will….again you check the scriptures, pray , and see where the Spirit of Truth directs you…again, if you need more clarification email me as I’m willing to share both scripture, and my personal experience in this area…PEACE
