Well my take might not be as nice, sorry Im not trying to be offensive. But you cant blame bad playing on the Spirit. An R&B gig is not a gospel gig and shouldn't be played as one! If you are a professional you should be able to adapt to the situation that you are in and play it comfortably! Sometimes it is all about the money! You needed the money so go make it doing what you do best!!! I once played a gig where I hated the artist and wanted to quit but it was the holidays and I needed the money. I just stayed professional and did my thing. Did I feel it, no, was I at my best, heck no I hated the guy, but I was professional and did my thing.

Now for the Spirit, come on! Your on a secular gig, what! Were you expecting the Holy Ghost to fall and everyone on stage was going to go into a shout!? On a secular gig you have no need to flow in the Spirit so dont expect to be led by him. He aint coming to a club or a bar to lead you whiles you're up there playing sex me up and bootys back. Youre drumming on your own and now the real you as a player comes out. I know the feeling real well, and Ive been there.... Playing for God and being led by the Spirit is 1000000000000000000 times nicer and more rewarding then playing any secular gig.

But God (Now Im not telling you to stay I dont tell Christians to go secular because I dont want their soul to be on my head!!) uses guys like me as a light to those people. Im very straight up about my Christianity and most people who know me in the secular world knows it. To the point where they will not put me in an after party type suition. The amount of people that I influence (and I dont even have to say a word) just floors me...Example, they tend to watch their language around me, or not smoke weed around me and even come take to me about Church.

Now that's the business! Good word!!!

And just to add, saying you can only play Gospel music is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What you're really saying is "I can't play anything other than Christian music." I can't tell you how frustrating it is hearing this come from people. Anyone else feel what I'm saying?

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS. I have had a problem with that mentality every since I joined LGM. We are Christians not Gospelians and you are either a Musician or you are not. Christian music is a genre label to the industry, a Message to the masses. It is not a style of music as misunderstood in the urban culture. We are talking about SENSIBILITIES (Sensibility refers to an acute perception of or responsiveness toward something, such as the emotions of another. This concept emerged in eighteenth-century Britain, and was closely associated with studies of sense perception as the means through which knowledge is gathered.) which require you to be a present, preferably knowledgable and  prepared participant in the musical scenario you are in at the given time. In short either showing yourself approved, able to rightly divide the truth of the situation or a willing student supporting the leader serving the music.

I wasn't able to articulate what I meant by my post, but Sabe expressed it well. I'm frustrated when I hear stuff like "I can't play anything but Christian music." Or "I can't go there because I'm a Christian." Or "I can't do that because I'm Christian."

What we have is a bunch of arrogant and ignorant people who think "behavior modification" is Christianity. While "I can't do that because I'm a Christian" may be true, it's the mentality behind it that is WRONG.

Since we're being frank about things lets GET REAL for a minute.....................

WE ALL HAVE WEAKNESSES RIGHT?

Taking my christian self into a club at midnight with a band trying to make money.....With "Tasha" to left with a dress so short, you cant look right up and see everything, "Miesha" on my right with spandex on so tight, you can see the shape of everything. "Tatanalicious" straight ahead, with gouchos on, that are so tight you can see "you know what". AND then the band gets free drinks???

Male Musicians LOVE WOMEN. (granted not all of them do, but thats a whole nother topic). I would not be man if I didn't take a good glance if they are walking by me! And after seeing this all night long, I am going to want to call somebody up and "handle business". For those of you that have ever been to a club, the things happening in there are FAR from Godly. And if you've been delivered from something, its just not good to put yourself in situations where you're mind gets to thinking about the past and what it would be like to go back. When Lot's family was fleeing Sodom, God told them NOT TO LOOK BACK. And what happened when Lot's wife turned around, looking at what was to be thier past? She turned to stone.

While I'm playing my beats, "Tasha" is grinding on "Mike"........................HOW IS SOMEBODY BEING DELIVERED?? They're just using my beat, to continue thier grinding.

Now we've all been delivered from different things, and possibly this is not one of them for you. So do what you gotta do!!! Play in bars, play in clubs, play whereever you want!

But FOR ME PERSONALLY, I just believe that God has put that spiritual leash on me not letting do this because he knows me better than I know myself.  We are ALL DIFFERENT, and to knock somebody for not being like somebody else "IS THE STUPIDEST THING I EVER HEARD".

Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

I think that when you originally posted the topic, it came across as "your inability" prohibiting you to play on that scene, and that's why the responses have been the way they've been. It's not your "musical inability", but rather, a "personal spiritual boundary". We all have things that we can't associate ourselves with because of where we've been in life. No one can fault you for knowing your boundaries. Nothing is more important in life than your obedience to God. That's the issue. You have to be careful how you word your posts doc. All we can do is read what we see and respond to what we read. It all love chief.
Love God. Live Long.

Now thats way different then what you said in your first post!!! I agree with you. Thats why I said in my last post that I DO NOT tell Christians to go play secular!!!! For that very reason... It is hard when the keyboardist from another group is hot (and a woman LOL) watching you all night and leaves no space between you her ***** and herself, or women in the audience start hittin on you and you have to keep reminding yourself "Im married, Im married and Im a Christian!"

I try my hardest not to even get near for any of that, usually I play and leave but theres the odd time that you cant. And I have the added bonus of not knowing where my wedding ring went to. But man it get easier with time, you see one pow booty on an artist youve seen them all... Even backing Christian artist you catch a glimps of some sweet booty (women)!!! And trus me, theres lots of Christian (woman) artists with some sweet booty!!!!

This is sort of confusing......Some ppl say God sent them into the secular field to do some work for him but do you really have to play with the artist to witness to them? Or are you doing that on your own terms? Is that the only way? Im seriously asking cuz i wanna know but let me stop before somebody say "dont judge(stop snitchin)" ::)

I feel everything u said QCdrummer.  Stay true to yourself and don't worry about what others think.

I don't play drums like I used to back in the day, but on the keys I have gotten some offers to produce some R&B stuff.  I tried it and I didn't have any creative inspiration whatsoever.  I knew right then where I was supposed to use my gifts, in CHURCH.
Real musicians play in every key!!!

Man, I know I aint (spiritually) strong enough to play at a club (for a lot of the reasons that QC mentioned) so i wouldn't put myself into that situation.

I like J Kay's sig:
W.Y.D.D.I.W: "Whatever you do, do it well (or not at all)."

So if I aint feeling it (and I have a choice) I'm not gonna do it.

That same temtation is in church on sunday morning, Mcdonalds on monday, home on tuesday, Joeys football practice wednesday, etc...

What I am hearing is a bunch of wimpy (yea, wimpy) christians who act like they need to lock themselves indoors to hide from some legs and booty. Man up men of God. Think about it, the strongest temptation is when YOU'RE ALONE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS where none of us can judge you. A place you can hide what you feel inside. You need to change your paridigms (ways of thinking). You need to really meet the man Jesus. He alone can change a man from the INSIDE OUT. Out of love for Him, you would be tempted, but choose not to sin. There is NO PLACE WHERE TEMPTATION IS GREATER.

I am by no means sticking up for secular gigging. I just want to challenge those who choose to stay ignorant. This is why unbelieving men look at us like wimps. Jesus was no wimp. He literally kicked ***!

You must have a hard time alone with the computer if this phases you. Lets just be real.

I'm not saying it is wise to put yourself in a crazy situation, like a bachelor party at a strip club, because I know somebody is gonna go there. All I'm saying is if a man really knew Jesus as savior, friend, sovereign king, and not rule book, you wouldn't have to second guess and ask mostly complete strangers on LGM their opinions. If you really knew Him, He would be leading and guiding you.

Oh you're reffering to my language? Sorry dude, He really kicked butt. I mean it, we never hear about how Jesus was a man's man. He really was. To often we forget how FUNNY HE WAS. He showed up a few times after the ressurection and spooked people, then wanted to grub out, and then straight disappears. That's funny.
