Really nice man. Keep practicing, you'll only get better. I would try to do something different with the drum solo. It seemed a little forced and out of it's element. I know you're one of the avid studiers on this board, so I would only suggest listening to drummers who play this style and listen to how they build their solos.
My goal as a musician is to be better than myself.

...really nice man.  I admire you.  You're in band.....reading music......and playing music.  Great.  The only thing I would add is to do like all of us and practice and pay attention to your dynamics.  I can definetly hear some "Shed Tendencies". LOL  I agree with Suga, listen to drummers that play that style.  "Big Band" and "Old School Broadway".  You're on your way man.  Keep on going like the energizer bunny.

good job tho, but yea I agree you sounded like you were about to audition for Gospel chops III.....lol

this would be a lil better defintion of the approach you could've taken during your solos, not exactly this, but you can tell he could've chopped it but he didn't he took a soft approach and it was great

Good work playing the Charleston.

I'd say play the music.  Your solo didn't really fit the music.  It was like putting a square peg in a round whole.  You have chops, but if you're playing stuff that doesn't fit.  Listen to the drummer that really did the thang.  Listen to the Count Basie Big Band and the Duke Ellington Orchestra.  The cats that played in those bands could really swing.  The drummer, as in any band, drives the bus.

If your band director is going for more of a show band, pep band sound, then he is definitely on the right track.  You as a drummer/musician should shoot for authenticity and play as "authentic" as the band will let you.

You're on the right track, but you definitely have some homework to do.

thanks for the comments. i knew at least one person would say somethin bout the solo not fitting the music. I do agree; if i get another chance to do that tune i would have done my solo more like the one on the original track, but when its like the first time you're playin drums in a school concert after playin keys at all the previous ones, you do tend to want to lash lol. but i will take that on board.
