Is it me or does it seem like everybody and their grandmothers make beats, produce, etc.  I don't even do it anymore for real because so many people do it and either for free or next to nothing.

Wassup lil bruh B,
I hear what you're saying.  I was like that too when I started making music.  I still love it, but I want to make money as well.  A lot of these younger guys are doing it really cheap and now people don't feel that they have to pay much money to get music.  If I do music production, it's soul, gospel, smooth jazz or something that typically needs more advanced skills to play.  This guy called me yesterday and wants me to recreate some instrumental r&b.  That should be interesting.

No offense but a lot of these younger producers aren't musicians and many can't play a note.  If you can do it and make money, that's cool but it's about supply and demand.  Right now, there are way more folks making beats than the demand, so producers are a dime-a-dozen.

I really feel that technology is really hurt us these days, especially in the gospel industry because it seems like about 11 out of 10 people are working on CD's or producing.

And people typically aren't very honest about what level they are at, everyone wants to be a pro but there are:

Hobbyist - people that just like to try to do it
Amateurs - people that can start getting paid for what they do
Semi-pro - people that are getting calls.
Professional - people making a full time living off of what they do.

Most people are hobbyist (IMO) but say they are Pro's

I really agree with you.  Technology is a double edged sword.  What many either forget or haven't taken the time to figure out is the fact that every aspect of the technology emulates a process or component that already existed.  People embrace the technology itself but don't take the time to figure out the core process of what music is and how it is made.

Yes, this is a crazy kinda chord progression...but I'm not knocking you for it because it can be a really cool loop.  Try this

FAbC/Ebmaj7 -Eb Eb D C
Emaj7/Db - B B Db Ab

You should read my blog http://howtomakehits.blogspot.com

Do you know there are sites that allow people to sell beats?...and that people selling beats online for like $25 when...IF they had REAL talent and just weren't FLY BY NIGHT, they could be getting 10's of thousands of dollars like the REAL producers???

This REALLLLLLY urks me! lol...seriously, if you want TO "SELL BEATS" then check out my blog!!!

What urks me is the fact that we've taken something like composing and producing music and reduced it to being called a BEAT!
People aske me if I make beats and I always say NO!! I compose, arrange, and produce.  I don't make beats.

The concept in "bold" has always been around and will never go away. You get what you pay for. Serious people are willing to invest in their projects. I know a guy that just dropped 13K for his project. Music is a very delicate process that is important at every level of production.

I somewhat disagree with you.  The value of anything is only determined by what people are willing to pay for it.  In the business, it's all about making a profit; buy low and sell high.  If somebody can put out a hit and they paid next to nothing for the "beat" then that devalues quality producers and writers.  Just something to think about.

Semi-pro - people that are getting calls.

I am in this position now and I am so thankful.  Hopefully I am FINALLY headed to Pro status as a producer as well as a songwriter and composer.  I should be working now because I have quite a few tracks due, but I am on the net.  But I am going to the studio tomorrow and it's going to be all about vibe.  We'll see what happens when I get there.

BTW, if you want to be taken seriously as a producer, do not call yourself a beatmaker.  The word producer entails so much more than putting some music together.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

When I have the new stuff completed, I will post them on Myspace or direct you to those artists' Myspace pages.

Preach bruh!  I deal with so many artist where their beatmaker; so called producer makes their track and basically leaves them hanging.  They wind up in the studio having to produce themselves or they will try to get me to do it.  A real producer's job isn't done until the master is in the hands of the duplicator.
