MIDI - M-usical   I-nstrument   D-igital   I-nterface

Describes a way for one electronic instrument to control another, as long
as they both speak MIDI.

In other words, you can send all the key presses and settings to another instrument, and it will play the music, or you can record the information into a file, and play it with computer software.

funkyfingaz,

Each instrument has something called a wavetable, that it uses to create it's sounds.  These are preset sample sounds, and any sound that is in the
target instruments wavetable, you can play through midi.
