Well,
I have been told to stop playing for people before, and it does make the musician feel bad, as if they can't play, in which is a reason why if I don't practice with you beforehand I will not play with you now. Musicians do not know every song and we can't play a song the way everyone wants us to play it, especially when we haven't heard the song before, or know how the singer(s) is going to sing the song. to me if I don't know what the singer is singing or how they are going to sing it, I sit the song out, even when they say come on musician help me out, because when they begin to mess up, then the first thing they are going to say is that musician threw me off key or off beat, so it is better not to play for me. I think that since she is a musician she should have got on the piano and played the song herself. No offense, this is just my opinion.

I dont think that it is an embarrassment and i dont think that she was trying to embarrass tha musicians...there is no doudt that they have heard the song...but this is not a song that most musicians or choirs have just set down at learned....twinkie just has that kind of voice that is so unexplainable...its no different then on her live recording with florida state gospel choir....on the sermonette track when she switched keys and she had to say tha name of the key that she was in so the musicians would know what key to play in...

No, this is not embarrasing at all! She handled that very professionally in telling the musicians where she needed for them to go. As has been stated the musicians didn't know her song but they did a great job! This is why we state all the time on here to KNOW YOUR THEROY as much as possible! I have been done like this before and I consider this to be a honor because I knew chord structure and theroy when the sindres called out chords. Also, as the Bishop states again as to learn ear training cause it will save you from a night of total embarrasment!!  AND THATS A RAPP!! Bishop Cole  |

Usually I would agree with spider5, but Twinkie handled it well! That was good of her that she threw out chords like that! But yeah, I would have had a hard time even if she threw out chords cause I play by ear and patterns. I know some chords when they're dictated to me but not enough to do what the musicians in this clip did. They did a good job.

She should have told Derrick Jackson to play the song. Wasn't that Derrick that went up there to get her to play when they first started playing the song?
I don't feel she did anything wrong at all though. It's actually good that she called the chords out because most singers don't know music and theory themselves and they can't call out the chords or progression so they just proceed to call you out!
She actually gave a compliment @ 1:43 mark because it looks like she forgot where to go on her own song and the musician already knew where to go which cause her to say that they are making here look bad.

Now granted we've all heard "more qualified" organist that played behind her. But i felt she handled herself well in telling the "bruh" to stop. it seemed as though she wanted the people to worship.....just a thought...

I listen to the video in both minds such as a beginner and an advanced I will give an assessment on this. If i was a beginner, it would be an embarrassment because it seems as an insult to the player. If you listen to it, it seems that she didn't really want that keyboard player to play for her. Now, for a more advanced player, it is a compliment because just to hear her incite on the pattern of music it is gracious. If it was me and I was the player I would ask for more guideance on my playing like tips and everything because she knows what she is talking about. Right now, If I see her, I will ask as much as possible to help my growth in the ministry as a music and a minister of musician.

Geez, it seemed to me that the organ player was doing a good job. Even after she discouraged and somewhat dissed him in public by saying," I know you might not be able to play---)". A courteous way to handle it would be to say " I want to sing this acapella and truly worship God without the music" at the onset.
Maybe my ear is not as good as it might be, but I think the organist added to her song, and I just thought he did well.
