Starting guitar lessons next week
« on: January 07, 2009, 08:46:39 AM »
One of my goals for 2009 is to become proficient on the accoustic guitar. Im expecting big things. Interesting enough, my teacher is a very talented alternative rock player. I'll give it three months and hopefully I will notice some significant changes in my current playing. BTW, I pay $25.50 a week for 30 minutes lesson and I have been playing for about three months.

Dang, I've GOT to up my rates!  >:(

Anyway, if you're putting in the time practicing at home apart from your lessons, you should see steady improvement in your playing.

Hey can i lock them in at the current rate? ;D

Actually that price is pretty reasonable. Lessons around my area go from $25 upwards per 30min session.

I was charging $15/half-hour from 2004 until I stopped teaching late last year.
When/if I resume later this year I'll be raising them to at least $20/hour if not higher.

You wouldn't get much business around here (Detroit Area) charging more than $14-$15/half hour. Any more than that and you could get laughed at!

In southeast VA, I was paying $25/half hour for bass lessons which is about average for around here.

5 yrs ago, my keyboard instuctor was charging $20/hour out of his home. Now that he has a building, he's up to about $35/hour which still isn't bad for a whole hour.

Hey that is very reasonable for a keyboard instructor.

Wow, really?

A LOT of Michigan has been going through rough times for years that much of the rest of the country just started to feel last year.
I've got relatives throughout Kalamazoo and Portage and that area. Their paper mills all closed up and became "global", which is code for 'being produced outside of the U.S. of A.'.
Yet I digress...I couldn't make room for all of the students that I could have potentially had since most of the local stores around here were charging $25+ for lessons.
