im kinda mad at this whole electric kit thing but i guess they had to do some advertising. but in that case why not just use triggers

from whats been said in the other thread the soundcheck was better.

wonder why we as musicians always seem to play more killin stuff in soundcheck

The sound ruined it for me.... and the regulars here know how much I dig Lang. I was truly looking forward to these to phenoms playing together but I am disappointed in what I have read about it and heard. Through no fault of the performers it appears the sound was improperly handled.

seems like it was a typical everything sounds good in soundcheck but not during the performance. it could have been that the sound engineer mixed it and then when they started playing their adrenaline kicked in and they hit harder thus making it louder and the sound dude just stood there.

Ok, here's my take on it.  I was there obviously and at soundcheck it was off the hook. They were both throwing down and they were kind of balanced.  From what Pridgen was saying he was having a hard time with the monitor mix, however in the house it sounded really good. However keep in my mind that the hall was empty at that time. 

During the actual show everything just seemed to get louder.  I don't really think it was an adrenaline thing because both cats were blazing hard at soundcheck.  I think the sound engineer just couldn't figure out how to balance both kits.  Lang was not as loud as he was in the actual performance.  So that's what happened IMHO.  Also, I think there was TOO much going on at the same time.  There were ALOT of notes and you couldn't really tell what was going on because of it and Langs kick triggers were really loud.  In addition, just include all the 32nd note double bass drumming and rolls  with all the bouncing around in the hall and we get just a bunch of muddy sound. 

However, these two guys are just out of control.  Great stuff.  Pridgen had a set of 18" hi hats.  I know the top was an 18" A Fast Crash.  Dude the hi-hats sounded great.  His whole selection was great and they sounded ballsy!!!  Alot of body to them.  Sorry, but I just dig that Zildjian sound.  They have SOOOOO much body to them and projection.  They should take it on the road, but I think Lang should be on an acoustic.  I couldn't really appreciate his stuff on the VDrums.  Nonetheless, when he played by himself it was just straight up sick and his coordination is out of control(actually he's in total control) LOL!!!    Take care and God Bless.

you have so many judges looking for different things and its already bad with amateurs not winning when they think they should just imagine if a pro were to not win when they think they should

plus its to many different styles to say this person is the best it really is.

That sure would be a good show though, and I think they could get it done if they really wanted to , but yeah...peoples ego's would probably resemble Kayne's and then we have a big problem with them not showing up or walking off, but money get's people to show up and the fans would absolutely love it. Plus, how could any professional drummer get mad for losing to someone like Jojo Mayer, Chris Dave or Tony Royster? Like I said though, I woke up from that dream. It'll never ever happen.
