Any chord can be used as a passing chord.  The most popular are dim7's and dominant chords.

There is a chord that I picked up from the triton extravaganza DVD a while back that serves as a passing chord in a 7-3-6 progression. It is a rootless G13(#11)  The voicing is as follows:
7 3/ 13 9 #11  (Key of C: Bb E/ A D Gb) or Bb E/ DMajor

There is another concept of passing chords that I picked up from a jazz forum. You can approach a chord chromatically with a dominate chord a half-step away. It can give your playing an interesting sound.
 Example   6-2-5-1 progression

Key of C  Am-Eb7-Dm7-Ab7-G7-Db7-CM7

Some approaches I use are the chord before or after the one I'm going to or use the one a 5th away from the chord your going to. Use dim7 or dominates, let your ear be the judge.

hello

can anyone post some common passsing chords that you in hear in most gospel songs.

Here are some off the top of my head:

Key Db LH/RH

Bb / Ab-Db-F (6)
A / G-C-E *passing chord to 5
Ab / Gb-Cb-Eb (5)
Db / F-Cb-Eb (1)

Gb / Ab-Db-F (4)
G / Bb-Db-F *passing chord to 7
C / Bb-Eb-Gb (7)
F / A-Db-Eb-Ab (3)
Bb / Ab-Db-F (6)

You can combine the above 2 into one big never-ending progression.  That gospel move is found in lots of songs.  One that comes to mind is "A Praying Spirit" by Karen Clark-Sheard.

Bb / Ab-C-Eb (6)
Gb / A-C-Eb-Gb *passing chord to 2
F / Ab-Cb-D-F *passing chord to 2
Eb / Gb-Bb-Db (2)

What are slash chords?

It's basically playing chords with notes other than the root in the bass. Chords like this:

B/D#: B major chord in RH with D in the bass, D# / B-D#-F#
G/F: G major chord in RH with F in the bass, F / G-B-D
