Jairus Mozee...Gospel Guitar
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:35:18 PM »
I found this on youtube. This set me back another week. I mean I didn't want to touch my guitar after this. I want to sound like this.

Why do bad people happen to good things?

Apart from the funny head jerking, that is some good stuff. The tone is killer.

However...

I think we may be too much in awe of some of these guys. They put in the practice and learned what they know. The time we spend being in awe of them could be useful in actually LEARNING and practicing. Of course this should be done with patience cuz if you hear this video and immediately grab your guitar thinking you can do what he did, then you will be frustrated.

:)

But overall that is really good stuff.

The car, job, house wife/husband are not the reward, God is.

wasn't crazy about the tone....but some decent stuff in there. like Fenix said though, not mind-blowing, and nothing you can't learn with a little time and effort.

I understand what you're saying, but maybe you should pray for a change of mind. Meaning, hearing players like this should make you WANT TO touch your guitar. It should be an inspiration, not a deterrent.
I remember back when I was younger, more impressionable and less cynical  ;D  I'd hear some new song or lick or player and just think to myself "How does he do that and how can I do that??" and then get to picking up my guitar and trying to figure it out.

Also, do not try to play way beyond your abilities right now. Move in small steps. If Mozee is too far out of reach, take a few steps back and learn what you can right now. As your abilities improve, you may work your way up to his level or higher.
A common trait among guitar players especially is their unrealistic desire to play like "insert famous killer axe man here" today without spending the YEARS learning the basics of the instrument.
You GOT TO crawl and then walk before you can ever run.
Music theory is not always music reality.

amazing what u can do with only 3 or 4 chords...find what u like, and love to do, and master it...this is just how i see it... i love all the different styles and techs and all that other stuff, but i dont love to play them..i love finger picking, slow acoustic, R&B CHORDS is what i call them, lol, and thats what i practice and write songs to .when i some what even get close to mastering it ill move on...just my 2 cents
I TOOK SELF OUT OF THE WAY, BEFORE THE THROWN OF GRACE I LAY, WHATS MY PURPOSE.

I agree on the tone. It's pretty (sorry, had to...)

I thought that 1st riff was kinda sloppy, too. I think that was the intention, but it turned me off.

They guy is good, though. I've heard his stuff before.

Basically, +1 on what everyone else said.--just practice. Start small if you need to. You'll get there.
