Song suggestions?
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:20:41 PM »
Hi all!

Praise the Lord!  It's been forever sense I've been on this site but I'm needing some help.  I don't normally work with youth (tweens and teens) but I will be doing a youth choir this summer for a camp.  I need at least 4 easy to learn songs to teach the choir.  Anyone have some good suggestions?
TIA!

Off the top, "Everybody Clap your hands" by Joshua Troop.

You could also try "I give You praise" by Troy Sneed.

Also, "Let us worship" by Tye Tribbett.

"Hallelujah, Salvation and Glory" is ALWAYS a good one, as well.

"How Excellent" by Walt Whitman and the Soul children of Chicago.

I like that one too. I have a nice midi file if you choose that one.

Press Towards the mark - Think its by norman hutchins

Holiness - Steven Hurd

I give you praise - youth for Christ (Is that the same as troy sneed's?) Anyway, their whole album has youthful songs

we do a song called Psalm 63 - Its by the Greater Alen Cathedral, but I have no Idea which cd its on or where to find the track

"Everybody clap your hands" by Joshua's Troop...my choir usually does the movements that are done on the video

"Everything" by Tye Tribett....very simple praise and worship type of song.

"I belong to God"...great song to rejoice to. Made for all ages.

"My Name is Victory" by Johnathan Nelson and Purpose...great encouragement song for youth.
Live is more when you living it 4 GOD.

Those first two songs are NOT easy. With the first one, you have to have folks that can sing harmony well and have good range.

With the second, you have to have a lead you has a good range.

The Joe Pace suggestions is EXCELLENT. As a matter of fact, that CD (on which those two songs are found) is an EXCELLENT source for easy choir material.  ;) 8)

It depends on the youth...if you have an actual youth choir ages 12-18 then there should be no problem if you can teach music. It doesn't take long to catch the harmony. I taught both those songs in less than an hour...  but a choir who actually studies their music and listen to the radio on the reg does help.

It just depends on the choir level....

Lemme replace those two lol with:

Our Father You Are Holy-Ricky Dillard
Spirit Fall Down- Luther Barnes
JEsus is My Help-Hez Walker
Inside Out-Mississippi Children's Choir>i think; this one is def old skool

Deep in My Heart-JAmes HAll is good too... imma teach this one next month-sounds hard but its fairly easy when you listen to it

See, this comes down to preference, as well.

I dislike choirs that scream. Hall, Dillard, Walker have choirs that scream, at times, IMHO.

I realize I'm probably alone in this thought, but I'm quite cool with that.

As for the start of your post, I agree that it depends on the level of commitment of one's choir, no matter the age.
