I decided to pull the trigger on a Schecter Studio 5 so this bass (the one on the right) has to go.  I bought it used from eBay in September 2008.

I think you will like the Schecter. I have had mine for a year now and love it. It is light, nice neck...the only thing I am going to do is change out my PU's to some Barts. I gave the EMG's a try for a year but with having Barts on my Ibanez BTB it makes it hard to stay with the EMG's. Enjoy...

Thanks for your interest. I haven't actually weighed it but I can say it was lighter than my SX Jazz 5, maybe around 9 pounds. And the fretboard is pau ferro (at least I think it is

)

Yes, it's pau ferro (AKA: "the poor man's rosewood"). It's also used on current production SRV Strat models. It's a real nice looking bass; I'm surprised that you haven't had any takers yet. Fender has, unfortunatley, discontinued this model and has replaced it whith the Squier Affinity Jazz V.

Thanks for your kind words. I've tried to take good care of it for the short time I had it. I am hopeful that the price drop might help.

If I am interpreting Fender's website both the deluxe and standard mim's are back.

Nickname aside, Ken Smith Basses (not a poor man's bass) use Pau Ferro on most of their models.

Pau ferro is usually cheaper than roswood, but it is not an inferior wood. It has similar tonal qualities, but is a little harder and usually is ligher in color.

Yeah, alot of higher end builders use it. Sadowsky Metro RV models all have pau ferro (or morado) fretboards also. It can have some really nice grain to it, in addition to the above. Big plus is that it doesn' dry out and really need to be oiled like rosewood. I had a 2006 Artic White MIM Jazz V that I really wish I could have kept.

dhagler, is there any way you can give me a more accurate weight? Not to be a weenie, but my neck and shoulder have been beat up pretty good and can get real onery.

If you can do the "weigh yourself with and without and subtract" that would be very cool. If you run it a couple times, will give a better idea.

I'm looking for a 5-string backup that isn't too heavy.
