Pau ferro is usually cheaper than roswood, but it is not an inferior wood. It has similar tonal qualities, but is a little harder and usually is ligher in color.
Yeah, alot of higher end builders use it. Sadowsky Metro RV models all have pau ferro (or morado) fretboards also. It can have some really nice grain to it, in addition to the above. Big plus is that it doesn' dry out and really need to be oiled like rosewood. I had a 2006 Artic White MIM Jazz V that I really wish I could have kept.
dhagler, is there any way you can give me a more accurate weight? Not to be a weenie, but my neck and shoulder have been beat up pretty good and can get real onery.
If you can do the "weigh yourself with and without and subtract" that would be very cool. If you run it a couple times, will give a better idea.
I'm looking for a 5-string backup that isn't too heavy.
