Musician Down!
« on: November 30, 2009, 01:58:44 PM »
So I just recently join this church, where there were two keyboard musicians (including me), a drummer, and a bass player. Well yesterday after church, the drummer comes up to me and informs me that the keyboard musician announced that this would be his last time playing at church.  Apparently he found a new church to play at....ok.

So my thing is this.  Before this all happened, myself and the other musician had busy schedules, so I would rehearse with the choir, and he would rehearse with the praise team and male chorus, because thats what our schedules permitted.  With him gone now, and apparently me being the main keyboardist left, do you think it would be my obligation to be available for all the rehearsals and engagements, etc.? Even though the agreement was that we would split duties because of our schedule?

Keeping in mind that I am still taking grad classes at the university in the evenings, and I have two groups that i rehearse with outside of my home church. Would it be wrong to tell those other groups i cannot continue with them because i have an obligation to my home church?

I would Speak to The MOM and the Pastor, or whoever else is in charge, and come up with an agreement. Everything should be negotiable.

You can only do what you can do. I think you have to make sure you don’t make yourself so busy that you don’t have enough time for yourself. It’s all about God and he’s responsible for taking care of his business. If God tells you to take it on then case closed and his business would have become your business….lol….
