Tune to A-440.  Try and tune with your ear.  A tuner is ok, but try the old fashion way.  Enjoy!  You can get a guitar tuner online that will give the tones for each string, and it is free!!

God bless!

To tune to your piano, the bottom string (the skinny one) is the same as the E above your middle C.

The strings are (skinny to fat) e, B G, D, A, E

They span 2 octaves from e to E, so start with that E above middle C, and walk your way down.  OR, once you have the bottom string in tune, you can tune it to itself.  this is hard to explain with out a picture.  You could do a search on Google, or something.

But, yes, and electronic tuner is a good thing to have.

Your best bet is to get a chord book or poster (you can get the posters at WalMart for $4), and just memorize the chords.  They are not going to sound exactly the same as they do when you play piano.  Even though they are made up of the same notes, they are different inversions that you're probably used to.  Once you have the basic chords memorized, you can work on inversions and such, but you will eventually be able to pick out stuff by ear (once you are used to the timbre of the guitar itself).

I hope that helps you some.  Keep us updated!
