Need suggestions on buying a keyboard...
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:20:43 PM »
Can anyone recommend a decent intermediate level keyboard?
price range: $1500
features: 60+ weighted keys, different sounds, recording capability (I'm not going to be doing studio work with it).
I really want to graduate from the casio series (at least the lower class casio's). Thanks everyone!

Look at Rolands'  RD seris stage pianos(not sure if it records),Yamaha Motif MO 8(not sure about memory) and Korgs' new board (M 50?).These are pro boards, maybe  a few hundred dollars higher than what you asked-but not something to upgrade from 6 mos. from now.Check CL-you might find what you want local in a Yamaha Motif ES wtd.88.good luck

Hmm Well i was just checking out some stuff on Guitar Center and in response to docjohn, the Korg M-50's are(for the 73 keys at least) under 1500.

Thats the link if you would like to check it out. I'm not to sure about Korg's quality as I have never used one of their boards, but I am sure that someone else can give some advice on these boards.

I am currently looking at the Yamaha S90ES boards. For the Factory-B stock(which is the product that had a defect in it from the factory and have been repaired. Guaranted to work perfectly) They are somewhere around $1599 Plus Tax. For direct from the shop they are around $1800. This is what I would go for if you could afford it since the S90 is basically the Motif with a few less capabilities.

Here is the Yamaha demonstration of it.

I've owned a lot of Korg stuff which is generally pretty good,I played the 61 note version-the keys seemed pretty cheesy;and in fact 1 or 2 were stuck.Maybe not a problem with the 88's
