Evidence Of Superb Pocket Playing (my opinion)

hey fellas and ladies,

Here are the list of songs that i think that defines the pocket. Enjoy!

Jeff Davis on "How Much We Can Bear" Hezekiah Walker's Nothin But the Hits cd.
Chris "Daddy" Dave- "He Loves Me" From Kim Burrell's Try Me Again cd.
George "Spanky"McCurdy -"Its Time Now-from Tye Tribbett's "Life" cd
Calvin Rodgers-"Right Here"- John P. Kee's Not Guilty album.
Marvin McQuitty- all songs from the Commisioned Live video-----On the song Help Me 2 Help somebody, Marvin has a nice drive on the Bass Drum thats so simple, it had me going nuts!

One thing I would Like 2 point out, if any you guys seen the Hezekiah Walker Live in London Video, check how they show a small clip from behind the set as Jeff Davis Lays into the song, "To Be Like Jesus".  He is so fluid, and he keeps the bass drum pumping. I just love that guy.

Any way let me hear some of u guys on your choice of songs that define pocket playing!

Doobie Powell on Twinkie Clark's Home Once Again...Live album (I love the way he finds  freedom with beat placement.)

Lil' John Roberts with The Rock on Tony Moore & Jehova's Chosen Love Lifted Me album (the man practically did a solo with his hands while his foot
stayed with the bass guitar).

And Pinaro I have to second you on Marvin McQuitty on that DVD. He makes the simplest patterns phat.

i must give props to Jeremy Haynes ...he always plays with the band...and manages to accent at the right times...check out A Wing & A Prayer Album..by TD Jakes & The Potters House....Jeremy is off the chain...he works it out on Manifest...he also adds good cymbal work... AWESOME pocket....

i also dig Derico Watson...Carter Beauford....Sheryl Harper ( Kurt Carr's Awesome God)..Jeff Davis (rich smallwood)..?uestlove (the roots)..and Clyde Stubblefield "the most sampled drummer" for (James Brown.) groove...ya'll know for simplicity i got to go with Calvin "coon" Napper...

it's all about disciple..and making everyone around you sound good...and that happens when you play as a band.

one.
