MUSICAL QUESTION
« on: September 30, 2003, 10:11:33 AM »
Ok...I need someone to give me this change.  I feel like the way I do it is wrong because it lacks that BOTTOM that the singers look for on this part of the song...

Picture this...the congregation is singing "Bless that Wonderful Name of Jesus" in B-flat.  On the third "Bless that Wonderful Name of Je--sus", what do YOU GUYS play right there?  I'm specifically interested in knowing what you'd do in the left hand.  Even when I'm in the congregation, there's just "something" that I need right there to sing that part, you know?

BUT...if I can get someone to post that one change for me in B-flat, I will try to transpose it (using the number system that Marvin brought us this Summer) and put it "out there" for everyone to get in case we need it.

Thanks.

WOW!  Thanks, HAMMONDMAN.  You must be really tall and have exceptionally long fingers, though.  On that second change....you mean you can stretch your hands all the way from D to C at the same time!?  I'm going to try that as soon as I get home.  Thanks a lot.  Now that I know it's 7, 3, 6 (I think that's what you said),I can play with it in every key.  Once I get it down, I'll post it somewhere so the rest of us "amateurs" can have access to it.

This whole experience has really taught me something (and I am NOT using this as an excuse, I promise).  When you are an amateur playing for a church, many times you don't have time to "learn it the hard way" and those little cheat sheets and helpful hints really help out until you have time to go back later and "really get it".  I really appreciate this help more than you know!  Thanks a lot Hammondman!

OK..the D and C thing wasn't so hard.  And that's exactly the "bottom" I'm talking about!  I can sing to that and feel like I'm in church rather than in a jazz club somewhere!  Thanks a lot, Hammondman!  I really appreciate it.
