Alot of stuff from Fred Hammond's stuff is nice.  I also like the bass intro on O'Landa Draper's "He Touched Me" of the Reflections cd.

I like a lot of stuff (I was brought up on quartet/gospel).  It's nice if you make it your own, but recently on the Speak life cd (Joe Pace), the first song God Can, the bassist is nasty...  I really zone out on that.  The entire cd is nice.  Anybody know who the bassist is?

My favorite bass lines are  Israel and New Breed - Here I am to worship, breathe into me, rise within us, another breakthrough. Fred Hammond - Show me your face, Daily Bread/Lord of the Harvest, Hold on. John P. Kee - Oh How Wonderous, At the Cross, Lord your great. Hezikiah Walker - Power Belongs to God, Jesus is my help. Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship - He is Here.  And Basically that's it. THere is a lot more, but these are the ones I can remember right now. Yup!

It's hard to say what my favorite bass line is.  I can take a riff from almost any song that I like and would like to learn.  (Unless it's country music).  Just can't get into that:)

ONE NATION. Thaddaeus Tribbett. On Tye Tribb's LIFE album. That bassline is so HARD. Not hard like difficult but hard like I need to be rollin in a caddy gangsta leanin. lol That bass line is not something you can just pick up and play, though. It requires a touch you can't just copy, you got to feeeeel it.

right now, the bassline i find most interesting is the one on
"Back In The Day" on Eryka Badu's Worldwide Underground CD.
the song reminds me of Gil Scott Heron, for some reason.

a really steady groove on the bass with some really interesting chord
choices on the keyboard.  i love bassline grooves like that!
i wonder who came up with it? (bass player? keyboard player?)

any gospel bands out there that play laid back grooves like this?

I believe i'm correct in saying this... James Poyser produced Erykah's album...I think....Please pick up Life Tye Tribbett and G.A. He produced that album as well. If you like james poyser (a guy i've following for a while now) you'll appreciate Life........no pun intended.

Tye Tribbett's "I can make it" has one the nicest basslines I've ever heard.

My favorite is (Used to be a) Cha Cha by Jaco Pastorius. After that is Jabril and Quentin Mack by Meshell NdegeOcello. All three are well worth a listen if you're unfamiliar.

Here are a few bass lines I think are awesome
It's Already Done in the Spirit (Smokie Norful on TD Jake's  album wish I knew the bassist)
Victory (Fred Hammond in early Commissioned days)
Personal Jesus (Tonex both versions)
Make His Praise Glorious (Karen Clark-Sheard)
Down at the Cross (John P Kee)
Message in the Music (Debra Killings)
This Joy that I Have (Yolanda Adams)
Bless the Lord (Richard Smallwood & Vision)
All I Have is Yours (Richard Smallwood Singers)
those come to mind first but there are countless others...

Than in the secular world I like "The Game" by Erykah Badu, "White Nights" by Mshell ndegocello, "Teen Town" Jaco's and Marcus Miller's version. old school "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5 is bottom line the best r&b bass line ever.

Well I basically zone out on any good bassline. But the ones that really stick out I forget the names of the songs but I know the artists.

1. Fred Hammond with Radical For Christ
2. Vickie Winans a particular fast upbeat gospel song had one of the best basslines I've heard but I can't rememeber the song.
3. Certain Jill Scott songs (when she performs live)
4. Temptations- "My girl" and "It was Just my Imagination"
And the list goes on and on and on.

I think and no offense to the pianist, guitarists, and drummers but you can't argue that the bass is the backbone of the song.

Hey Fenderjazz, (used to be a) cha cha is pretty nice but what about continuim?  Donna Lee too... what isn't tight that Jaco did?  Even the "out there" stuff he did with weather report (8:30)  is nice.

Check out his biography... it's amazing and sad at the same time.

There aren't too many basslines I don't like, be it simple or complex. I like a lot of Fred Hammond's stuff, along with Andrew Gouche'. Hezekiah Walker's last CD was real cool. I also like alot of Marcus Miller and Meshell's stuff especially a cut called "Rush Over". There are several Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane basslines I have used and made mine. Hey, all n all I like them all. Even a few Contemporary Country cuts  .
